It was 2007 when I started the blog, WenY Wonders Why.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>The first post, a simple hello to the world. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>What started off as a means of communicating my life to good friends in Malaysia soon turned serious and eventually, it became the food blog it is today.</div>

10 years forwards,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>this domain has made me a better person.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>From my food experiences, the restaurants I have been to and the people that I have met, it was sensational. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>But oh how things have changed!<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Blogging went quiet, work became demanding and I soon got posted to Europe for work.</div>

After much thought, it is finally time to stop dragging my feet and to clean up!<span class="Apple-converted-space"> Is this the end? </span>No this is not an end, but rather a new beginning.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> I will </span>start sourcing for a newer, simpler platform which fits todays "quick" community. Breakfast for champions? Head to Petition Kitchen. With 0 surcharge on ANZAC day, this was my place of choice. The cool interior paired with impeccable service was two of the many reasons for my presence that morning. To start I ordered a Matcha Latte, but Petition Kitchen did not have Matcha. The good folks attempted to use green tea and though it did not taste the part, it was amazing effort. They even gave me another hot chocolate to make up for it. Simply wow!! </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
There are plenty on the brunch menu and it was quite exciting to see the variety on offer. The three breakfast that morning were:</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Butter roasted mushrooms, tater tots, baby kale, Onsen egg.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/34083230991/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4179356"><img alt="P4179356" height="490" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2886/34083230991_e29bc200b2_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Baked slow eggs, bean, ham hock, Kransky sausage</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33371828844/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4179360"><img alt="P4179360" height="484" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4181/33371828844_cf5d4f0f81_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Everything that morning were typical classics. But the plating was impeccable. I do not think that Petition Kitchen went above and beyond themselves in flavours but as always, classics done are simply amazing. How did they go? Starting with the roasted mushrooms, it was a textural wonder with the crispy tater tots and bouncy shrooms giving the dish a nice bite. Then comes the runny egg which brought everything together. The baked eggs were pretty standard though I do applaud the generosity of the Kransky sausage that gave the whole dish a meaty smokiness!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Grilled chorizo, black pudding hash, slab bacon, fried-egg.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/34083227541/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4179363"><img alt="P4179363" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2873/34083227541_a59b8ca99f_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Presentation? Spot on. My breakfast of choice was a meaty feast with so much to love. Slabs of tasty bacon, smoky chorizo and fried egg. Man. There was so much meat and its no secret that I love my meat. This must be Petition Kitchen’s brunch equivalent of a peanut butter milkshake. It was a protein feast that has not lost its appeal of taste. I reckon a little balance would have had this dish on a home run. But that is like adding kale to a peanut butter milkshake right? Who the hell does that? lol.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Did I enjoy Petition Kitchen? Definitely. The food was superb and I enjoyed every moment I was there. From entrance to service it was enjoyable. They swapped my pseudo Matcha Latte for a hot chocolate? Customer service to die for! Food generous, and hearty. Venue sensational. Would I return to Petition Kitchen? Yes.</div>

Art Dinehouse is for me one of those eateries where looks matched with a cool hip venue should mathematically equal to an amazing dining experience. Did it deliver? Last week I walked in to Art Dinehouse with a cool 50% off lunch deal thanks to Dimmi. Needless to say we ordered pretty much the whole menu.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/34173206116/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4159342"><img alt="P4159342" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2836/34173206116_9babf36bda_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The food at Art Dinehouse is a mix of all cultures. Whether its a Sambo or Pasta or even Salad, its got a chance on the menu. Plating here is pretty sensational with the prosciutto slices ever so beautiful. Amazingly tender and pink, it benefited from the many other elements on the plate. From the acidic pearl lemons to the salty capers, a lot of effort went into making the dish picture perfect. Around the table we also ordered the chicken sandwich which featured a deep fried chicken sandwiched between two very buttered up bun for a kick. Art Dinehouse’s Prawn Pasta is another worthy mentioned due to its generosity with the prawns.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
My experience at Art Dinehouse was overall worthy of an OK. Food was a bit of a hit and a miss with a 50-50 hit rate. The saving grace for us was that several hiccups like a piece of plastic in the leek waffle and bones in the croquettes were dealt with in an apologetic and sincere manner. Waitperson was every bit courteous, so what else could I ask for? Definitely no hate on the plate with future opportunities for a re-visit :)!</div>

Another weekend, another brunch. Amongst the many things W.A has to offer, its pristine beaches easily comes close to topping the list. So why not do brunch by the beach right? That’s exactly what Shorehouse had in mind. This popular restaurant takes in the sweeping views of the Scarborough coastline with both indoor and outdoor sitting benefitting from the million dollar view. Its brunch menu was nice and tasteful with accents of seafood written between the lines. After enjoying a hot Chocolate, I ordered an omelette to get my daily protein. This was not just any Omelette though! This was Shorehouse’s Crab Omelette.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
But can they top the famous <a href="http://wenywonderswhy.blogspot.com.au/2016/07/bites-sensational-corned-beef-hash.html">Chilli Crab Omelette by Frisch and Barc</a>? For starters the omelette at Shorehouse sticks true to the creamy butter finish of a traditional Omelette. Silky smooth with a strong hit of butter, this was joy. Topping the protein was some crab meat cooked in miso butter. Umami bomb at its finest with the nutty and slightly sweet Miso flavour serenading the dish. Moving to the inside of the Shorehouse Omelette, there was a slow cooked leek. Unfortunately, this was where the joys of the buttery egg and tender crab flesh ended. The leek was still fibrous and undercooked. To a certain extent it was hilarious seeing how everyone was busy picking the fibres from their mouth haha. There was a mound of dental floss on some plates :P Then again we only had two choices. One was to take it out, or two we could have swallow it whole lol.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/34083233621/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4149344"><img alt="P4149344" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2820/34083233621_902bdb513c_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>

</style>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Shorehouse is a promising venue with my sister previously giving them credit for their amazing desserts. An omelette for $23.50 is pretty pricey even when comparing it to Frisch and Barc who had more crab meat in its omelette. But look beyond the food, factor in the sweeping shoreline and price soon becomes irrelevant. The combination of food and views make for a winning meal. Would I come back? It will be a definite yes but I would not be in a hurry.</div>

Every now and then my family dines at Belmont Forum for a quality brunch. Then are the times we go out for a Chinese Meal. But in my 11 years of staying in Australia, my family have never had a Chinese meal in Belmont Forum, until this week. So what has changed you might ask? Well, a lot. Starting from the rejuvenation of Belmont Forum to the addition of quality bites, the whole Forum is changing. Rapidly. From GYG Mexican and Schnitz to San Churros, a new Chinese restaurant called Canton Lane has opened and it was epic. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Familiar faces at Canton Lane tells me that the restaurant is a quality chain that includes Canton Bay and Hong Kong BBQ. With that being said, I expect the Roast Meat at Canton Lane to be top notch so I decided to give the Peking Duck a try.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33187037324/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4139325"><img alt="P4139325" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2845/33187037324_d830516d75_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
This was the Peking Duck (without the deep fried Mantou). Describing it in one sentence, Canton Lane has used crispy duck skin paired with juicy duck flesh wrapped with refreshing pickled vegetables finished with a dollop of sweet sauce! Its been awhile since I had Peking Duck so this was really enjoyable!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33187037854/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4139323"><img alt="P4139323" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2908/33187037854_c845f10a8d_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
We also had another appetiser of XO Radish Cake. This one ticks all the boxes with their perfectly browned radish cake which is fluffy and soft on the inside. The XO sauce packed a decent punch with hints of scallops present through-out the fry-up. If anything, I would have liked it a little stickier (i.e. more sauce)! Nonetheless, it was every bit satisfying. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>

<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Prawns with Salted Egg<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33187037004/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4139332"><img alt="P4139332" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2897/33187037004_4ca49a6016_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Japanese Beancurd on Hot Plate with Diced Chicken and Salted Fish.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33989210716/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P4139339"><img alt="P4139339" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2904/33989210716_7df843ed72_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The Canton Lane’s main menu has all the usual Canton suspects. Pictured are the Prawns with Salted Egg, Pan Fried Tooth Fish, and Japanese Beancurd on Hot Plate. Other favourites like Peking Ribs and Roast Meat are also on the menu. The cooking at Canton Lane hit all the sweet spots I would want when I dine at a Cantonese Restaurant. Execution of the Deep Fried food such as the prawn and fish was kept really clean. No sense of overpowering greasiness in the fragrance or to the taste. Salted egg dressing was really traditional (and generous)! What more could you ask for? Even the Garlic Kailan was delicious!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

</style>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Dad is very critical about his Chinese food and felt that Canton Lane exceeded his expectations for a restaurant soft launch. For me, I was super keen to know we no longer needed to go through the struggle of finding parking in Northbridge!! A much welcomed addition to Belmont Forum. Canton Lane opened on the 10th of April serving Dim Sum during the day and Chinese meals. From delicious Dim Sum to perfectly Roasted Meats to traditional Cantonese fare, you can get it all at Canton Lane at Belmont Forum.<br />

Cherry and Grapes recently joined the brunch scene in Perth played host to my first morning brunch after finishing onsite I was pumped and the easy parking made it better! After a quick scan through the menu,I was thoroughly pleased to know that non-coffee drinkers are well-taken care off. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
I started off with a Matcha Latte. Green must be good for healthy right? lol.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33187040754/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" title="P4089323"><img alt="P4089323" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2867/33187040754_b0c2229245_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<br />
The Matcha latte was pretty good with a generous layer of froth! Would have liked a stronger hit of matcha but I realised that the Matcha amount was probably right but it needed a little more whisking to make sure all the Match powder was dissolved! And did I mention how good the latte art was? It is top notch at Cherry and Grapes! </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
With over 15 people there were way too many dishes for me to go around snapping photos! So I stuck to getting a few popular choices!</div>

Featuring a house made patty, tangy relish, and truffle aioli, this burger looked ready for a model shoot alright! Sandwiched between two nicely browned buns, this burger looked the real deal and tasted good too. Who is to forget the hand cut chips made in house! Best thing about these chips are the crunchy edges and fluffy insides! Filled with potato flavours unlike the powdery packed ones! Note: pure beef aficionados with a stronger preference for bovine heaven in its original state (basic salt and pepper), you might find the addition of herbs be a little overpowering!</div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
This was another interesting dish by the folks at Cherry and Grapes with a cod filled croquette taking the centre stage. Topped with hollandaise a sprinkle of what appears to be Paprika my friends thought it was good and flavoursome! I liked how there was more acidity in the dish beyond the hollandaise with the addition of the gherkin and caper salsa! That was a nice touch.</div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Every week, the restaurant puts a special out for their diners and this week its the slow braised lamb shank. I got the last one for the week and it was a damn good feed. Tender braised shrank meat was fall-off the bone good. Then comes the sauce that is herby, rich and full of flavour with a whiff of wine! It was the perfect sauce for the carbs on the plate.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Easy weekend parking and great drinks are only part of the enjoyment at Cherry and Grapes bring. With lots to offer in their menu along with weekly specials keep things interesting, I have to say it was a memorable brunch with good company! Sure there were hits and misses like the over seasoned burger patty but for a place that has opened just a few weeks ago, I expect a lot more to come from the good folks at Cherry and Grapes! </div>

Nobu is a top tier Japanese restaurant with an International presence. Since making its mark in Perth some 5 years ago, Nobu has gone from strength to strength and even took out the title of best Japanese fine dining on some blogs. But for some reason, I was never quite curious enough to step into Nobu, until today. Nobu’s menu is a cross between Peruvian and Japanese but is it a winner against my preferred French and Japanese fusion? Lets check it out.</div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
This is one of Nobu’s most popular dish, but I was not convinced that the freshness and touch of citrus burst in the soy was enough to justify its popularity.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Seared Salmon YUZU KARASHI SU MISO </div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
This dish on the other hand was wow! Start with the thick slices of perfectly seared salmon, wrap the fried leeks in the salmon before dipping it in the complex sauce of yuzu, miso and hot mustard. Its a real act of balancing here. So many things happening in one bite. The citrusy beginning followed by a nice salty-almost sweet miso and to end it all was a hint of heat from the mustard! Complex flavours working in harmony with one another.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Another Instagram favourite, the popcorn prawn. Unless you have a prawn allergy, there is very little to dislike about crispy battered prawns. Crunchy, salty and juicy in each bite, it is a crowd pleaser on its own. Unfortunately these did not pack the crunch I wanted. Then comes the spicy mayonnaise. I have had plenty of spicy mayonnaise but I was not satisfied by the spicy mayonnaise in Nobu. It tasted flat and perhaps a little boring. Perhaps they could bump it up with more Sriracha? Or maybe I am just too used to having Spicy Mayo made from Sriracha and Mayo!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Black Cod Miso</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33524173351/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P3129302"><img alt="P3129302" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2924/33524173351_9fa0eaf2b8_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
I talked about favourites at Nobu earlier but if Nobu is famous for something, it has to be its Black Cod Miso. Presentation was everything I had expected to see and the flakiness of the cod was perfect. There is something therapeutic about layers of fish flaking off one layer at a time. It is like enjoying the marbling of a fine Wagyu! Flavour wise the caramelised miso was nutty, sweet and salty all at the same time! Another high point! Was it deserving of the hype? It sure was. If only the skin had more appeal hmmm.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Chicken Anticucho</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32810748464/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P3129307"><img alt="P3129307" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3757/32810748464_d50a765467_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The Yakitori is to the Japanese what the Anticucho would be for the Peruvians (according to google). Yay/Nay/Ok? At best, it was only going to qualify for an OK. The Anticucho was unfortunately drier than expected and it not for the punchy sauce, it would have been a write-off. I guess after going to the Michelin Star Tori Shin in NYC, very few chicken skewers are able to satisfy me with the exception of a finely executed Chicken Satay :P!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Pork Belly Spicy Miso Caramel</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33269626430/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P3129309"><img alt="P3129309" height="519" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3840/33269626430_3bd08d2561_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
With my favourite Buta No Kakuni not on the list, I thought I would give the Miso Caramel Pork Belly a try. Bad choice.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Fillet Mignon with Truffle Teriyaki Sauce.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33653367645/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P3129315"><img alt="P3129315" height="521" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2891/33653367645_498cf855cb_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The last savoury dish of the night was the Fillet Mignon with a Truffle Teriyaki Sauce. Was it simply Beef Teriyaki with a fancy price tag? Fortunately not! The advantage about using a quality meat like the fillet mignon is that it packs a good beefy flavour without the fat. The Teriyaki sauce was OK, but I was hoping for a more impactful truffle taste in the Teriyaki. The addition of Truffle from Nobu would struggle to compete with the flavours I get from the drizzling of a quality truffle oil on regular steak. Sad but true. Another bummer was that we ordered medium only to be served medium-well! Bummer much? =/!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Last but not least was dessert to share. Pictured below is the Miso Cappuccino (we also ordered another Nobu Dessert Bento!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/33524146641/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P3129319"><img alt="P3129319" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3834/33524146641_81a1e83082_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Talk about Miso overkill! This was the 4th dish with Miso and while I disagreed with the order at first, I was actually glad my sister got it. The Miso Cappuccino was delicious! Frothy, at the top with a hint of miso. It was not plain miso in your face but rather layers of frothed milk, miso, chocolate creme and I think some biscuit crumbs? Also, that shine on the froth with that perfectly positioned Nobu badge! Absolute precision! Enjoyable in every bite.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The bill was $300 for the night (without drinks) and was not as expensive as I thought it would be. So yay or nay? I am giving Nobu a yay but it barely got there! My expectation for the night was a 9, but it ultimately delivered a respectable 7. So where did it go wrong? Well lets start with what it did well. The seared salmon with a complex taste composition was definitely a winner along with Nobu’s signature Black Cod Miso. I also quite liked the Mignon with Truffle Teriyaki but was let down by the lack of truffle flavours. Oooh did I mention the really delicious Miso Cappuccino too? Then comes the let downs which were the Pork belly, and the Chicken Anticucho. Sashimi King Fish and Popcorn Prawns which are popular among Nobu’s diners lacked a punch! Sister reckons we should give them another try perhaps for lunch as they are usually less busy and the food is much better! Perhaps I will one of these days. For now I will stick to French Japanese combinations.</div>

Bangkok on William was a place that I visited before actually going to Bangkok again last week. But does Thai food 5,000 kilometres from its home have to taste all that bad? Surprise surprise, it was actually not bad at all. Bangkok on William was good with courteous service. One that you would expect when visiting the land of smiles. That night, my hungry family of 4 ordered a meal enough to feed 6. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The serious highlights that day were the strong set of appetisers and amazing dish of vegetable. Spongy, and tasty spiced up fish cake was perfection while the fresh Som Yam (Papaya salad) was impossible to dislike with its tangy sauce giving the mouth a refreshing feel. Then comes the Tom Yam Goong that just amazes with its rich prawns flavours and generous amount of the crustacean.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
When the rice came, we enjoyed a few other dishes like the Panang Curry, Basil Stir-Fry Chicken and the most amazing Crispy Pork Roast with Kai Lan.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The Basil Stir Fry here was so much better than the Basil stir-fry dishes my friends and I had in Thailand. Bangkok on William ensured the meat stayed juicy while spiking the dish with generous amount of basil, fish sauce and chilli! Just the way I like it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32795943312/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2058870"><img alt="P2058870" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/538/32795943312_c859219d72_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Then comes the most amazing crispy Pork Roast with Kai Lan. As vegan as this sounds, this dish was more a carnivore with generous amounts of pork roast. From that amazing stir fry sauce to the crunchy pork, this was spot on when served with steamed rice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32795957712/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2058863"><img alt="P2058863" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/772/32795957712_64397bb8db_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
With my food palate now toned to the level of quality that Bangkok provides, I expected myself to feel slightly concerned at writing about a Thai restaurant in Perth But this post was easy as. That night the 6 dishes (not all pictured above) were a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly. The favourites that night were the Som Tum, Tom Yam Goong, Basil Stir-Fry and Crispy Pork with Kai Lan. The larb was slightly to salty while the Panang Curry was too bland! Definitely needed balance there. One thing I noticed was that just because I was in Bangkok, it does not guarantee that I was getting the best food as proven by the Basil Stir-Fry and Thai Fish Cake. If you are looking for a well-priced Thai place with great food, I would most definitely recommend Bangkok on William. That night the bill came to $130.</div>

Having an interesting Sunday brunch is a surefire method to killing off the oncoming Monday blues. But when you are ordering stacks of deep fried guilt at 10am for brunch, it is likely that even the Sunday is going to be a long day. I hit Floyd’s, a gourmet family-run cafe in Subiaco for brunch a couple weeks back and the menu is pretty damn intense.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
That morning I ordered the Panko Crumbed Eggs served with charred asparagus, fried potato hash and crispy bacon (as the prosciutto was not available)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32795971622/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2058847"><img alt="P2058847" height="485" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2130/32795971622_c00f3b7b86_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
The dish itself was technical marvel considering how there are still cafes in town that struggling to even poach eggs right. Floyd’s move to deep-fry poached eggs was a dangerous one. But when executed right and the yolk flows, it was a sight to behold. I was impressed by that aspect but the combination of fried bacon, hollandaise and crumbed eggs felt too heavy. Very heavy. Almost like a 3 piece KFC dinner box in the morning ha ha. But hey, I knew it before I ordered it. Guess I got a bit ambitious there!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
My dining companion on the other hand decided to go for something a little healthier and settled for the Seared Avocado and Bacon stack.</div>

Think smashed avocado but something more worth the buck and less worthy of an insult. The bacon at Floyd’s is crispy by default but her preference was for a softer more meaty bacon. Other than that, she thought her choice for brunch was fine.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Over all the morning at Floyd’s was decent. Not great but decent. Food wise, they have a few daredevils on there but other than that the creativity on the plate did not really excite me as much as I thought it would. After brunch that day I felt really heavy from my fried foods overkill! Definitely something to be vary off the next time I pick my brunch dish!</div>

Life is too short to be wasted. When you’re working 10 hour days, 21 days at a time I tend to have a natural need to consume, as you guess it food. This time around, Italian food. While I am no Italian food expert, I know that it spans beyond pizza, pasta and salad! I am finally at Lulu la Delizia and I was super pumped. This cafe is super small making it cosy, and very Melbourne-esque (sorry Perth!). The service from the door to the table was warm and welcoming making it an enjoyable entrance.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The menu at Lulu la Delizia has a group of “staples” paired with seasonal and daily specials. The appetisers here are out of this world starting with a strong statement from the salty, crispy Parmesan paired with the earthy grounded shrooms.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

Then comes the fruit King Fish Crudo which surprised me with the ripeness of the dish yet refreshing with the acidity of the lemon juice.</div>

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Three pastas from Lulu la Delizia were superb. Whether its the warmth of the saffron or the briny seafood explosion in the clam pasta, the pastas were top notch. Was it faultless? Perhaps not 100%. What went wrong you might ask? Don’t get me wrong I loved the Gnocchi’s sauce but I felt like the pasta itself should be softer, fluffier and more delicate. Might just be me though!<br />
<br />
The meal at Lulu la Delizia was really enjoyable. The cafe got a little noisy as Lulu la Delizia got busier and prices are not cheapest. But Lulu la Delizia pairs good service, with quality handmade pasta and tasty appetisers for an amazing Italian night. Will I come back here again? Definitely so.<br />

Piyawat the Sweetery first came under my radar a couple months back while I drove through the Vic Park strip. With its bright orange sign board saying “the Sweetery” I initially thought off it as a dessert only place. I soon found out that they did proper meals too and decided to come in for lunch on a Thursday.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Piyawat the Sweetery has the usual one dish suspects with a few interesting additions. For lunch, I enjoyed Crispy Prawn Tom Yam. A dish that truely has its own bragging rights with its super creamy tom yum sauce being the highlight. It was simply awesome when paired with fluffy steamed rice. What more can you ask for? Crispy prawns, and fragrant tom yam! Flavour bomb, Definitely not your traditional Thai dish but super potent and delicious!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32568961480/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2098897"><img alt="P2098897" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2348/32568961480_e3f8120201_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
We also ordered the Pad Thai Gai which is Pad Thai with Chicken. While it did not blow me of my socks or anything, it was definitely cooked well. Which means it is one of the more decent ones out there. I will go back and try their stir fry flat noodles the next time! My sis said it was pretty good when she went there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32825432931/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2098881"><img alt="P2098881" height="527" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3773/32825432931_10c7cca26f_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Alas, Piyawat the Sweetery is known for their famous desserts. Whether its the Mango Sticky Rice or their Dessert Toasts, the ending is always sweet here. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32106341294/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P2098900"><img alt="P2098900" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/463/32106341294_cdd04a6f9b_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Piyawat’s Thai Milk Tea Toast was the highlight of my meal. Probably the best I have had since my first encounter with the amazing buttery bread in Taiwan. Fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside with generous amount of butter. Then you have the silky Thai milk tea which was silky smooth and fragrant without an overpowering sweetness courtesy of the tea. Lastly, the coconut ice cream was generous bits of coconuts making it absolutely brilliant! So much to like on that dessert plate. Very well executed and not just your boring toast with “vanilla” ice cream though sometimes that might be all you are craving for.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
If you are looking for something new, fun and different to eat in town the definitely to the Victoria Park to try Piyawat the Sweetery. Also note that Piyawat the Sweetery closes at 6pm every day folks, so definitely do not plan a dinner here unless they change their timing which you can always check on Zomato!<br />

It is another beautiful day for dining out in sunny Perth. It was my sister’s birthday and her Japanese cravings kicked in. After scouting around she decided on eating at Ichirin, a small suburban Izakaya in the southern suburb of Leeming. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
It is not my first time here and I know that Ichirin serves pretty decent food for good value. Whether its a crunchy Karaage or Fresh Sashimi you crave for, Ichirin has it all. Do note though that if you are coming in for their Omakase Menu aka “Trust the Chef”, that you book at least 2 nights in advance. As we did not make it for the Omakase, dinner was going to be a simple Izakaya meal. To start was some skilfully plated sashimi before going to a favourite of mine, the Agedashi Tofu. Simply crisp on the outside and sitting in a bath of soy, radish and finely grated ginger. Lean and tasty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32444638451/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1108851"><img alt="P1108851" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/599/32444638451_4cf85cf3ae_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Then we go on to Ichirin’s Sashimi Carpaccio. Consisting of thinly sliced fish cook, this dish was almost like a Ceviche in the sense that the salmon that came out look slightly cooked by the Citrus Yuzu and Miso mixture. Refreshing in every bite, one simply could not stop with one bite. Then we stopped having the raw stuff as my dad calls it and move on to the more conventional warm dishes. The usual suspects made their appearance such as the Chicken Karaage and Gyoza.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31723268784/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1108861"><img alt="P1108861" height="496" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/637/31723268784_627e605fa6_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
As simple as it seems, Ichirin’s execution of these classics were people-proof favourites. Both juicy and moist on the inside, it was hard to fault. But if I had to pick the winner, it would be the Gyoza as it skin was cooked spot on and the mince on the inside was sensationally seasoned. The Karaage on the other hand, despite packing a load of crunch lacked an essential bite of ginger. Still it was very good.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
But my seafood odyssea has not ended yet. This time with a sensational plate of octopus. At this point we did not expect the meal to get better only to be surprised by a melt in your mouth octopus. I looked on Ichirin’s website but could not find the name.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32567301355/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1108853"><img alt="P1108853" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/419/32567301355_d381fa5370_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Not to be forgotten is the superb Teriyaki Beef Fillet. The marriage between a balanced Teriyaki sauce and a tender beef makes for heaven in mouth when paired with fluffy steamed rice. This was no different. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31723265224/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1108863"><img alt="P1108863" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/492/31723265224_ed507b3ded_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

</style>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
After finishing the night with some Matcha Ice Cream topped with Azuki (red beans), we were on our way home from Ichirin. A count of how many dishes we had, I had actually ordered about 9-10 dishes for the table with the crispy squid and tempura prawns not shown above. Was it too much? Definitely not as the Izakaya dining style consist of small plate in a social environment so you get more variety throughout the meal. The bill price at Ichirin? A very fair $170 with two bowls of ice cream and rice for a group of 4.<br />

When I was told that Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya sat in the spot of what used to be Shiro Izakaya, I was shocked as I felt that Shiro had really punched above its weight when it came to food quality. It even brought the Ramen Burger to Perth!! Needless to say its time has passed and the start of an interesting ramen place excites me equally. This latest Japan import is a new contender in the local ramen scene. Playing its authenticity card in a premium location, does Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya deliver?</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
First, the ordering process. Super simple with the modern touchscreen system replicating the ticketing booth’s of Japan. A high degree of customisability and toppings makes eating at Kizuki Ramen a bliss even for the fussiest of eaters. That day I tried Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya’s pride and joy, the famous Tonkotsu Ramen. To do that, I ordered the Double Tonkotsu.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32182738860/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1108846"><img alt="P1108846" height="513" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/441/32182738860_19c47575f1_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
My noodles were cooked “normal” with the broth's sodium level “normal”. Do two “normals” make one right? For starters I loved the kick the broth served up. That amazing thick porky broth was superbly hearty and tasty from the many hours. Kizuki’s Double Tonkotsu also comes with heaps of garlic so you can actually see it floating amongst the lard on the soup which gives it a fragrance that cuts through the meatiness. Chashu was tender and melted in my mouth immediately. Surprising considering the thickness of it! Noodles carried the right amount of bite. Enjoyable! The egg was faultless though I think if they had cut it, the food would look better. I knew I would mess it up if I tried to cut it so I did not even bother.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

</style>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
A really quick hit and run lunch that cost me $18. Was it worth the buck? But before we go there, lets just set the ground the Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya served some amazing ramen. I have heard previous feedbacks saying its too salty etc, but salt is a matter of preference. In fact, most restaurants in Chinatown load up on sodium too so for me this was comparable. The Tonkotsu broth at Kizuki Ramen had a really nice garlicky punch that I enjoyed and its richness was well-toned to my palate. If you are looking for Tonkotsu, this might be it! Price point though is definitely on the higher side of things. Back when Dosukoi was open, it set the price point for ramen at $10. It was one of the cheapest ramen in town while the Nao Ramen establishment sat on a “pricey” $13. With new places charging $15-18 a bowl, I suspect die-hard fans will go all out to try the latest in town. But can these new ramen joints beat the classics for longevity? Only time will tell. I know for me that the Tonkatsu alone is worth a return to Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya. In fact, this has got to be the best new ramen in town.<br />

You've probably seen it, drove past it and maybe even walked past it. But you've not been in Royal’s Chicken & Burger. So maybe you should. I've finally had a chance to visit Royals and who doesn't love a good meal of burgers, wings and chips? If you don’t you're probably out of your mind. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The menu is not complicated. If you go for the wings, pick how many and what sort of sauce you want. That evening we had the Honey Pepper and the Buffalo Wings (lvl of spiciness - Hot). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32356937811/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P1118869"><img alt="P1118869" height="495" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/454/32356937811_75793a7974_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Pictured above is the buffalo wings with a heat level of “hot” which is just before the "hell-ishly" spicy one. And it packed a kick for what it was worth. If you frown at the delicious Merrywell Lollipop wings due to the lack of heat, Royal’s Chicken and Burger will not disappoint. Celery stick is its usual accompaniment along with a blue cheese dip. Now, if only the sauce bowl was slightly wider so I could dip the wings in the sauce..? Moving on, the Honey Pepper Chicken tasted "OK", but lacked any real appeal. There were not crispy bits coated in honey whatsoever, in fact it felt a little soggy at one point. But if you cannot eat fiery Buffalo Wings or dislike the acidity of the vinegar, this makes for a fair substitute.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Once we were done with the appetisers, it was time to move on to the burger. Royal’s Chicken & Burger has a couple of burgers on their menu. But what better way is there than to assess burgerfection that try their most basic cheeseburger, the no frills basic that when done right makes tongue wag! The Royal with Cheese (with an extra slice of American Cheese +$1)!<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
I think this has got to be the juiciest patty I have had in a while! Cooked just right, red in the middle and slightly crusty on the outside it was heavenly. Trying to keep things minimalistic, all I had in there was two serves of cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickle and onion. No vegetable bullshit stopping the marriage of meat and bun. Pickles were delicious and the chemistry between the mustard and ketchup was on point. The Royal with Cheese was simplicity at its best!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Do I enjoy Royal’s Chicken & Burger? Sure did. Its take on the classic cheeseburger is a solid success with little distractions from what it was meant to be. I bloody love a good burger!!! On the other hand, our reception towards the wings was a little mixed depending on whether you had the honey pepper or the buffalo or even the Southern Fried Chicken. While the Buffalo Wings got a nod of approval from around the table, the Honey Pepper was lacklustre and Southern Fried Chicken was a tad dry and did not really excite! Definitely coming back for my burger feed!<br />

December babies are a cheat when it comes to their age. And I’m one of them. I turned 28 in 2016 but I know that for the rest of 2017, I will still be telling people that I am 28 :P! My birthday venue was at Lalla Rookh and if you are looking for a place for drinks with great food, look no further. Famed for its good food in the CBD, I think it can now add “service” to its title as the waitress who served us that night did a stellar job. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31964361286/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC138868"><img alt="PC138868" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/535/31964361286_25ccb200b0_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
That we ordered the Il Capo or Chef’s Menu, which gives diners a chance to taste the dishes that makes Lalla Rookh the establishment it is today.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
We had an array of dishes spanning 6 courses long. First up were three credible starters:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31853233382/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC138869"><img alt="PC138869" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/621/31853233382_cb9fb333ae_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
The tartare was first up. Super stylish, tasty and the textures on the plate was sensational. Crisps topped with tartare that was so finely balanced was amazing. They also had this cheesy sauce that the dish sat on that made the whole thing even better!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The quail was a table favourite! Shame the meat did not fall off the bone as easily as I had expected it to! Other than that, it was perfect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31853219232/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC138881"><img alt="PC138881" height="534" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/406/31853219232_3875962016_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
The burrata paired with a grilled stone fruit salad. I cannot remember what it was now but to me this was a decadent appetiser! A little rich for those who are not into cheeses but I liked it! The creaminess of the burrata on point. Pair it with the grilled fruit salsa for added flavour bomb.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31884706741/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC138878"><img alt="PC138878" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/733/31884706741_ee1aa7b64e_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
After the appetisers, a dish of pasta ensued. The pasta tossed in braised tender beef was super hearty but for those who prefer tomato based pasta, this felt a little too heavy! But who have time to worry about that when the mains came almost immediately after.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31192157763/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC138921"><img alt="PC138921" height="800" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/259/31192157763_f6799c746b_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Alright guys I love my pork. So when this bad boy hit the table with some grilled leeks, I was salivating. Unfortunately the looks did not match my expectations with the meat let down by the mediocre crackling which was more chewy than crunchy!! This is normally the best part of a classic pork roast! Perhaps they should have crisped it up separately while resting the meat? The good part? Pork was still super tender and the veges were caramelised sensationally!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
To finish was a dessert that was pretty much any Nutella fan’s dream come true. It was ice cream, berries, crushed nuts and generous amounts of Nutella! All I can is that I loved it. Its rare that I enjoy something so sweet but this time I did. The berries, the nuts, the Nutella and the ice cream all did its job in keeping us eating it despite being filled to the brim. Lalla Rookh was really enjoyable that evening. Paired with the service, impeccable. Food wise, the Il Capo was good though I reckon due to several seafood allergies around the table, they did not bring out the staples like Lalla Rookh's popular grilled squid and crab pasta. Definitely one of the things I wanted to try! One thing for sure, is that I will be coming back to give those a try :P!</div>

We finally got our ex-colleague Win out to eat with us. This time, at Itsara in Nedlands. The bloke who previously dined with me at Nahm Thai reunites for a whole new level of Thai dining! His reluctance to join us is understandable as he was not keen on being a victim of high spec Thai dining. At Itsara, diners a choice of indoor sitting or outdoor sitting in the garden. Typically, I would not like to sit outdoors in summer because it is stinking hot! Fortunately, both choices of sitting are air-conditioned! That evening we were given the option of the group dining menu or the ala carte. We opted for the set menu as it guarantees the complete Itsara experience for the table. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
After ordering some drinks to start, a host of appetisers made their appearance. The betel leaf wrap and chive dumpling on a spoon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31192267273/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108850"><img alt="PC108850" height="800" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/619/31192267273_b34a962b0b_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
While the dumpling was pretty decent, I enjoyed the Betel Leaf Wrap better. Filled with prawns, roasted desiccated coconut, and Thai spices, it was super refreshing. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The next dish I believe is called the Fleeing Fish. Catchy as is, the flavours of this dish send me on another roller coaster ride. On first bite you get the saltiness of the fried fish. As you chew, the freshness of the mangoes and acidity of the lemon juice all of which mellowed nicely with the sweet sauce made for a perfect appetiser! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31192274903/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108848"><img alt="PC108848" height="534" src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/521/31192274903_e563e66447_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Crispy fish of the day with fresh mango, lemon grass, kaffir lime, ginger, lime zest and cashew nuts tossed with complex homemade sweet and tangy chilli dressing.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Initial impressions of the duck were very positive with its tender flesh and perfectly cooked outer bit means the fat was perfectly rendered. This gave each bite a hint of smokiness. Then you have the “full-flavoured” pineapple dressing which was nice, though I would question the full-flavoured portion of it ha ha. Another dish that despite being a meat dish was extremely refreshing!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31627438180/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108855"><img alt="PC108855" height="534" src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/1/647/31627438180_06b7a3b263_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Pretty Duck; Char-grilled marinated duck with fresh green mango, shallot, cashew nut and homemade full-flavoured pineapple sweet chilli dressing.</div>
<div class="p3" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b></b></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Believe it or not, we were already feeling pretty full at this stage and the mains were not even out! But as the kind host started bring rice out, we knew it was time for the mains. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31192256143/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108859"><img alt="PC108859" height="534" src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/604/31192256143_772e5654d6_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Green Curry w/ Chargrilled Chicken.</div>
<div class="p3" style="text-align: justify;">
<b></b><br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Itsara Island; Bite sized pieces of barramundi drizzled with caramelised tamarind lime and fish sauce on a bed of crispy Thai herbs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31853246282/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108860"><img alt="PC108860" height="534" src="https://c3.staticflickr.com/1/733/31853246282_b6e24c6777_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Besides the 2 mains above, we also had a delicious prawn dish and the Itsara Mignion Curry which tasted similar to a Massaman. Each dish were worthy of praise without doubt. The Mignion Curry was a pairing between tender beef and a rich curry sauce while the chicken was perfectly grilled on the outside with a fragrant green curry paste. Also, who does not like crispy fish with a tangy dipping sauce?! The best part of it all? Fresh plump prawns cooked spot on, and the sauce was super good. Heaps of chilli and garlic! Not quite sure what sauce was used but I could not stop putting spoonfuls of it on my rice. Very nicely done.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Feeling very full, we decided to skip dessert and go to Koko Black for dessert. So how did my friends and I feel about Itsara that night? While the upscale Thai food at Itsara was every bit enjoyable, I have to question the vibe I get. My friend who’s part Thai thought the food’s sugar level was a notch too high while the rest thought Nahm Thai ranked better. Did it? I really wondered because I felt Itsara had better balance on the tasting plate by alternating the curries, and the palm sugary sauced dishes. Presentation the food at Nahm Thai made a much better statement though! Unfortunately its closed now! Putting comparisons aside, there is a good reason why eating Thai food always has a special place in my earth. The service of is a notch above the rest. Then comes its flavours, I do not think there is any cuisine in this world better at balancing its flavours than Thai food. It is the pinnacle of multi-flavoured balancing!!</div>

WA is filled with quality vineyards but little did I know that hidden amongst the plains South East of Perth is a boutique winery called Millbrook Winery. If the wineries in Swan Valley have become a weekend norm, then a trip to Millbrook Winery might just do the trick! Only problem? It located in Jarrahdale which is a lot further if you live near the city. So was the 1 hour drive worth it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31161286064/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108784"><img alt="PC108784" height="454" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/708/31161286064_bf326138f9_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
The drive to Jarrahdale was a little far but the views were pleasant once I got off the freeway. Just mile and miles of pleasant greenery and rolls of hay!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The vineyard? Even better. The vineyard was simply spectacular with its restaurant positioned by the lake surrounded by the rolling hills! But enough about how nice this place was, time to get on to the food! That afternoon we had the set menu as we had a large group of 10. For $79, it was quite a lot that we got. </div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
To get us started, we were served some crusty bread, and liver pate.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32001923915/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108792"><img alt="PC108792" height="527" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/501/32001923915_453d75ffd3_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Bread felt really ordinary, but honest and humbly good. Not spectacular but still pleasant to taste.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The luxury of having Pate is not something that site serves. While my friends were apprehensive about the richness of the dish, I enjoyed every bit of it. Smeared on the little crostini and topped with the perfectly caramelised onions, it was heaven on taste! Delicious!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32001918245/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108794"><img alt="PC108794" height="800" src="https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/468/32001918245_6d9e405a46_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Following that, we were served a trio of appetisers to share:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31161264764/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108802"><img alt="PC108802" height="586" src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/1/758/31161264764_71d519354d_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
They were pretty decent! We had the fish wrapped in grape leaf, chickpea hash and duck rillettes! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32001911745/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108800"><img alt="PC108800" height="534" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/422/32001911745_d9458180c4_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Over all, the appetisers were nice! But I struggled with the fish a little as it was a little fishy for my liking. On the other hand, the rillettes were pretty yums but I found it a waste of the duck flesh because they were not moist and juicy but a little dry! So, the surprising favourite on the table that day was the chickpea hash! One friend even commented jokingly that it was like “Vegetarian luncheon meat!”. True enough I reckon. Put some of the cheese on top and oh my! Yummy!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
We could choose our mains and enough said we ordered pretty much everything on the menu! This was Jim's Fish of the day from Exmouth with smashed peas.</div>

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Honestly? I did not get to taste everything. In fact, I was so busy talking that afternoon that I did not even get a photo of my dish haha. In saying that, the general feel about the dishes that afternoon ranged anywhere from average to good. Mine was the Vegan Gnocchi (not pictured) and it was decent. But I reckon <a href="http://wenywonderswhy.blogspot.com.au/2016/09/bites-gorgeous-pastas-mason-and-bird.html">Mason & Bird</a> does it better :P. I tried some of the pork and hey it was pretty good! A very simple and humble dish that was not extravagant but simple and enjoyable. With tender pork, crispy crackling and perfectly cooked potatoes what more could you ask for right?</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Moving on to the desserts, we had a choice of three dessert of which two I had pictures for: <br />
<br />
The nut strudel with white chocolate & ginger ice cream:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31964403746/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108823"><img alt="PC108823" height="534" src="https://c3.staticflickr.com/1/567/31964403746_b1d3f23e36_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
This was surprisingly good! I found the strudel a little sweet on its own but when paired with the ginger ice cream, there was a surprising chemistry between the nutty strudel, lightly pungent ginger and the cool ice cream!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Mascarpone parfait, berries, crostoli.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/32001865845/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PC108834"><img alt="PC108834" height="534" src="https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/769/32001865845_26472007cc_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Berries and ice cream. What could go wrong right? Generally, the chances of going wrong is pretty rare so it was safe to say that I was not disappointed in anyway. My complements was how the Mascarpone had this slight cheesiness but it did not overpower the purpose of the dish as a dessert. Instead, it was this lingering cheesiness that balances nicely with the acidity of the berries and sugar content on the plate. But could it have been better? I reckon it could. First things first, serving temperature. Something as delicate as the mascarpone parfait could have been served a little more elegantly at a better temperature where it was on the brink of melting rather than frozen cold. Who do I reckon did it better? Well, <a href="http://wenywonderswhy.blogspot.com.au/2015/09/copenhagen-new-nordic-movement-relae.html">Relae of Copenhagen</a>! Maybe its time for me to get bags packed and start travelling hey?!</div>

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Millbrook Vineyard played host to an enjoyable afternoon with some good friends. The could not be a cooler spot to have lunch than Millbrook Vineyard. The vineyards food is over all, above average compared tot he usual fare. But if you come here looking for molecular degustation, this might not be the right place. Instead, look for good, humble, and honest cooking with wines and views to match. Would I do another 1 hour drive? Perhaps I would!<br />

This reputable Indonesian eatery has been crafting up delicious home-cooked Indonesian food for as long as I can remember. From its Chicken Menado specials to the daily staple the Ayam Rica Rica, this place is as good as a classic Indonesian restaurant gets. While I come here often, I have only brought my camera here once in 2010 so it was time for a re-visit.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This beef soup is absolutely amazing. From the moment it hits the table you get the smell of the aromatic fried scallions slowly settling into the beef broth. The thick chunks of tender beef is another stellar attribute of this dish. Pair it with a bowl of rice and some burning hot sambal (free on the table) for a great time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

Stir fried morning glory with shrimp paste is a classic Malaysian/Indonesian/Singaporean favourite. What is there not to like when fresh crunchy vegetables are cooked with a lip smacking sauce made from sauteed chilli and prawn paste. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This well fried chicken is topped with Kecap Manis, an Indonesian Sticky Sweet Soy. Like how the Americans have Sticky Ribs, the Indonesians have Ayam Kecap Manis. I reckon the sauce its a little too sweet for my liking, but there is nothing a little sambal cannot fix! Not to be forgotten is the fried chicken that was already tasty by itself!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
People's first impressions of animal innards are "eww". But with nose to tail, no waste advocates and other hipsters alike, these dishes are getting most respected. And as always. well-prepared innards are simply amazing. Its odourless, taste like meat and the remaining merits are based on the chefs capabilities. This deep fried liver dish is a on and off special from Manise. The giblets were super flavourful and lovely even by itself. Almost tasted like fried chicken! The sauce on top of it is none other than Manise's famous Rica Rica sauce. This spice mix is simply irresistible. Sweet, salty, fragrant and slightly sour, this sauce be used for anything. Chicken, beef, or seafood. Even tofu! Also note that everyone makes Rica Rica sauce slightly different but I like the one Manise Cafe does the best in Perth!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Manise Cafe has not disappointed me before and it continues to impress. Its food is consistent, truly affordable and most importantly good! The menu is pretty dynamic too with its staples available throughout the weekdays and several interesting specials brought to life over the weekend. If you are craving for some Indonesian, definitely give Manise Cafe a try.</div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">If you are not yet attracted by the neon lights from the Hummus Club on William Street, then perhaps some smooth and creamy hummus might change that. Judging from the social sentiment, this crowd-funded eatery has more substance than hype. And I love hummus and middle eastern cuisine, so I was super keen to see what it was all about. Coming in at 6pm on a Thursday the Hummus Club was packed out, but it did not take more than 20 minutes to get seated. The venue's combination of alfresco and covered dining allowed to restaurant be really nice, cool and airy. More importantly, it is a much welcomed addition to the William St. strip!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">To kick of the meal, the obligatory hummus with the addition of mushrooms.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31477997021/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB238796"><img alt="PB238796" height="534" src="https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/291/31477997021_c965c57682_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">If you do not yet know what hummus is, or like me think that Hummus originated from Lebanon/Turkey, then this is a Wiki-fact for you! Hummus is a chickpea dish that originated from Levantine and Egypt. While most perceive Hummus to be "easy", I can tell you it is not. The balance between the acidity and creaminess is key to making a hummus that keeps people wanting more! I reckon the Hummus club did exceptionally well. The addition of mushrooms was a random decision by me and I personally think it was a bad one because it did not give any added satisfaction. It was just "there" if you get what I mean. There is nothing wrong with a good, minimalistic hummus. In fact, the hummus in its most basic form would have been enjoyable enough!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">To get the protein going, we called a serve of the Zaatar Fried Chicken and Lamb Kofta.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31477998311/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB238793"><img alt="PB238793" height="516" src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/422/31477998311_46c742e498_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The chicken wings came out looking like herbed crusted nuggets and boy, I really enjoyed them. In fact, I think the herb crust was an absolutely genius idea because not only goes it give you a crunchy flavour bomb on the outside, but it also serves to preserve the juicy chicken flesh during frying. The chicken was served with some garlic tasting paste called a Toum that is super tasty. I reckon this was a winner although my sister was not the biggest fan.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Lamb Kofta.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31477995561/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB238802"><img alt="PB238802" height="534" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/145/31477995561_11acdd53b0_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Meatballs made from lean lamb mince with good amount of spice in it. When I think meatballs I do not usually think healthy. But when the Hummus Club puts Lamb Kofta with yoghurt, some refreshing sumac/red onion salad, it tasted pretty damn healthy! The combination of the spices, pungent onions and a cool yoghurt really complemented each other well. If not for an ice cream binge during the 15 minute wait for a seat, I would have finished everything. There was also a honey like dressing that was used to top the meatballs and boy were they good!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We also ordered the Batata to go with the meat. These crunchy potato gems came topped with spiced salted and a Toum. I cannot described how delicious these were, so definitely order them! If only I had not eaten all that ice cream earlier haha. The Hummus Club was an amazing venue that night. I left the venue feeling not quite as excited as I arrived probably due to the guilt of coming here will a belly filled with ice cream ha ha. But if anything, the Hummus Club definitely exceeded my expectations for a newcomer. The price was what I would expect from a Perth diner. The basic hummus though felt a little pricey at $14 and some might even argue that the Zaatar Fried Chicken could have had at least 6 on the plate but hey, Perth is not the cheapest for eating out!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is something strangely pleasing about Ramen. Perhaps its the way the full flavoured broth bring warmth or how, the thick wavy noodles are simply made for slurping! And who is going to forget the melt in your mouth chashu and the seasoned egg with a runny centre. With ramen shops coming up all around town, the competition is no longer a 3 way battle between the popular Nao Ramen, Dosukoi Ramen and Arigataya Ramen. With Ramen Lab, Oishi Ramen and now Ramen Samurai in the equation, things are a little different. Two weeks ago I headed to Ramen Samurai in Victoria Park during their soft opening. Unlike most Ramen places, Ramen Samurai is not housed in a small dingy hole in a wall kind of shop. Instead, it has a generous eating space with chefs keen to prep up a meal!</div>
</div>
<div class="p2">

<div class="p1">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had a choice 4 Ramen broths during Ramen Samurai's soft opening. They were the Miso, Spicy Miso, Kimchi and Curry Ramen. After having a good meal of Tonkatsu at Ramen Lab just days earlier, I decided to go for the Miso Ramen, $15. </div>

The assemble from the top is rather typical with the addition of corn kernels which are not my favourite. In saying that, they could have been cheeky and leave it out. I think Nao Ramen charges $1.50 for corn! Ramen Samurai’s handmade noodles are wavy and has a nice bite to it. The soup is super rich with a very prominent miso flavour in it. For those who do not take Miso too often, it might actually be a little overpowering and a tad gritty too. Still a good bowl of broth. The Chashu at Ramen Samurai was lovely! In fact, I think it deserves 1 point better as the skin had a more melt in your mouth touch, though not the best I had.</div>

This was very typical Gyoza. I mean what was I expecting right? Ramen Samurai’s Gyoza is nicely charred on one side with the top kept perfectly white and slightly translucent. While it taste good, I wanted a bit more filling in them as the Gyozas felt a little “skinny”. So to me it did not deliver that burst of porky goodness in one bite that I like!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In evaluating the enjoyment I had, the Miso Ramen’s broth delivered the kick I wanted. Its strong Miso flavour was slightly nutty but sweet at the same time. The sodium level was just right and it was nice! The egg was runny, but felt a little lacking? Maybe Soy? The egg did not have that balance between the Soy and Mirin. My meal at Ramen Samurai was nothing short of satisfactory. But was it a whole new level of ramen goodness? Perhaps this deserves a revisit! Delivering final judgement during Ramen Samurai’s soft opening would be too harsh.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Are you a Malaysian feeling a little homesick or a person who simply loves Malaysian food? Well there is another place in town where you get that sorted. Located in Manning, MyRasa opened a couple months back and with good reviews of the place, I was super keen to try it out. MyRasa’s interior is bright, spacious, and modern. More importantly, the greeting was friendly. Sitting down, I already knew what I was here for! Satay and Nasi Lemak. </div>

Super yummy. Tender, flavourful and skilfully grilled. Its accompaniments of rice cakes, onions and cucumber were yummy! Then we also have MyRasa’s Satay sauce which provided a peanut laden kick that was super rich. MyRasa’s Satay Chicken is pretty much everything you’d want and expect in a satay! Where Malaysia is different is that usually you’ll get little bits of chicken fat that is a little charred/crispy and just bursts in flavour when bitten into hoho. I guess this was the healthy version ;)</div>

A quick scan of the plate and it was all there. The crispy anchovies, fried peanuts, hard-boiled eggs, cucumber and sambal. The rice portion was seriously generous too! I really enjoyed the sambal. Sautéed perfectly, the sambal at MyRasa was more than just chilli! There were heaps of other stuff in there that gave it an amazing flavour. Just as the going was getting great, the Nasi Lemak hit a hump in two areas. The rice on the inside of the mound was very wet for some reason and felt overcooked. And I ran out of sambal haha. They definitely need to fill up that little sauce bowl with sambal! Next time I will ask for more! </div>

The over all experience at MyRasa was satisfactory. The Chicken Satay for me was the star of the night among the food we ordered. Its smokey turmeric and lemongrass flavours were just spot on! Nasi Lemak could have definitely been a hit if not for the technicalities faced halfway through. Price-wise, you get what you pay for. The serving of the Nasi Lemak not cheapest but its size is humungous and two plates could easily have fed three. Just do not forget to ask for more Sambal!</div>

When something new opens in Perth, there is very little secret behind it in this small city. When Ramen Lab opened its doors to the public a couple of weeks ago, I knew I had to get in. After all, there is plenty of space for more ramen in Perth.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Coming in hungry beyond words can describe, it was safe to say I ordered my heart out. To start, a single serve of their Bao filled with cabbage slaw, and pork belly with a drizzle of spicy Aioli.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31013294881/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB178774"><img alt="PB178774" height="800" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5825/31013294881_833128e5d8_c.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Clearly, each of these little buns were made with love. The bao itself was light and fully. The starts though were its top notch fillings and spicy Aioli tasted a lot better than what I remember Sriracha Mayo tasted! I particularly enjoyed the thinly sliced pork belly that had a slight charred smokiness to it. Did not looked smoked or anything though! </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Takoyaki</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31013232821/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB178779"><img alt="PB178779" height="534" src="https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5634/31013232821_28c198310a_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Octopus balls topped with a Worcestershire based concoction, spicy Aioli, Bonito flakes, and Nori. First thing that comes to mind when I ordered these is that it must have came right out of the bag! So there was little to dislike. For sure it could have been a little bit more delicate but what do you expect right? Very few people make their own these days. Overall, these were pretty nice since I really enjoyed their spicy Aioli!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
My pick of the Ramen bunch was Ramen Lab’s Classic Hakata. This style of ramen is my all time favourite where an honest broth is given the punch of black garlic oil! This was no different as the bowl looked super inviting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30984195452/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PB178783"><img alt="PB178783" height="534" src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5583/30984195452_9b0a9c90f6_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Looking at the noodles used for the Tonkotsu, you can immediately tell that the guys at Ramen Lab had done their homework because they paired their rich Tonkotsu broth with thin noodles instead of using the typical wavy noodle! That’s like rule no.1 in the Ramen Book. Then comes the other elements which were all very nicely done. The egg was a class act, along with the spring onion and fungus. Then comes the lovely pork belly which was tasted similar to the one in the Bao which isn't a bad thing considering how good it was! While the Classic Hakata was good, I felt that there were areas where Ramen Lab could definitely improve! First things first, the Menma or Bamboo Shoots needed a little more marinate because it still had a very strong flavour to it. Secondly, the black garlic oil. I love my garlic and the black garlic oil was way too little! Lastly the soup by itself was lovely but with the noodles I think it could do with a little more salt. The flavour was good but something felt lacking towards the end.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
As noodles in soup continue to dominate the eating scene in Perth along with the craze for American BBQ and Fried Chicken, it must be wary. Because if logic has it that a good bowl of ramen is like a trip to Heaven, then the converse must also true that a terrible bowl of ramen is a one way ticket to Hell. Thankfully, Ramen Lab delivered better than expected because the lacklustre reviews prior to me coming were a tad concerning. Sure there could be improvements but there was little to dislike. Over all, it still was a solid delivery. Oh yes, and I eat A LOT. I would have definitely needed an extra serve of noodles if not for the sides I ordered. A free serve of extra noodles would be good considering a bowl here starts at $15! Would also note that the staff at Ramen Lab were extremely courteous as they made sure I got the best from the piping bowl of noodles by telling me to mix it properly and to not eat the strong flavoured Takoyaki and Ramen at the same time!<br />

Coming home from site there was a sudden craving for dumplings, so my sister’s suggestion to go to Authentic Bites Dumpling House in Northbridge was timely. This little shop has queues building up early even before the doors open which I found to be very Melbourne-esque where all popular dumpling houses had long queues. But hey lets skip the queue talk and get inside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30933355741/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA148740"><img alt="PA148740" height="534" src="https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5684/30933355741_b89f5ac9be_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
The dining area is small but the turnover here is relatively quick. The menu is pretty straightforward with a few of our favourite appetisers making a surprise appearance. To start was a serve of drunken chicken and lightly pickled cucumbers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30905241662/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA148725"><img alt="PA148725" height="534" src="https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5763/30905241662_3d65b6aeaa_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Drunken Chicken:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31011753886/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA148722"><img alt="PA148722" height="534" src="https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5456/31011753886_5837dd2b3b_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Both, were amazing especially the chicken which had the fragrant of the wine coating the smooth chicken flesh. Its flavour was very mild and what was even more surprising was how the cold chicken tasted more fresh than heavy. Then comes the tangy cucumbers marinated in a little chilli, salt, sugar and some Szechuan pepper corn. Light numbing but superbly flavourful. It was a table favourite least to say!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The Shanghai Dumpling we ordered were a mixture Pork and Crab.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30905216412/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA148730"><img alt="PA148730" height="534" src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5694/30905216412_5a6ebe19bf_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
While I would normally go for the normal pork dumplings after a mediocre experience at <a href="http://wenywonderswhy.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/melbourne-bites-little-ramen-bar-x.html">Shanghai Street Dumpling</a> in Melbourne, the lure of the briny crab flavour paired with the juicy pork was hard to resist. Fortunately, Authentic Bites did not disappoint. The flavours were great and I really enjoyed it then. Except for the fact that I went to Singapore and had an even more amazing Shanghai Dumpling where the skin was really thin. No one likes thick dumpling skin!! Especially when steamed :P!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
We also had some noodles! The Braised Beef Noodle soup.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/31011728656/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA148728"><img alt="PA148728" height="517" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5656/31011728656_f178b1a5d2_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
The braised beef itself was no doubt on part with some of the best braised beef in town and I was over all very impressed. What disappointed me was the broth which I felt could have been more beefy. It was very mild so I decided to enhance its flavours with some soy and chilli oil. Over all, not too bad but nothing to rave about!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
We also had the famous the pot stickers filled with a morrish mix of spicy kimchee and juicy pork. Unfortunately I did a terrible job of getting a picture so there will be none. The dumplings themselves were very similar to the ones you’d get elsewhere but with a special crispy finish to bottom. It was really yums. I mean who would complain when they get more crispy bits right? Authentic Bites Dumpling House serves some serious dumplings but even better appetisers. Their noodles? Hmmm those were ok but I would not come back for them. Dumplings? Definitely. Dad though has his preference set for the more dainty Cantonese style dumplings served at yamaha. So this is not on his list!</div>

While a delightful high tea would have been an afternoon too dainty for me, some amazing looking cakes and some friends would make a good afternoon tea. In this occasion my ex-colleagues and I decided to visit Bites by D, a boutique bakery stocked with premium looking confectionaries. Scanning the counter, the attention to detail on the cakes were sensation. Everything looked so perfect!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
From Left to Right: the Fresh Berry Tart, Summer Delight and Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30029127074/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA228763"><img alt="PA228763" height="534" src="https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5495/30029127074_6f8e8ee98f_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
The products from Bite by D were superb. Glorious to see but even better to taste. The Summer Delight for example looks deceivingly similar to the famous Watermelon cake from Blackstar Pastry in Sydney but is nothing like that at all. In fact, I reckon the Summer Delight packs a better, more refreshing flavour that is not only more fruity in taste but more interesting in texture. I really enjoyed the mix of berry favoured jelly and the tart lemony scent in the luscious cream at the top! The berry tart was OK but my second favourite on the plate was the Salted Caramel Tart!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
From Left to Right: the Opera Cake and Winter Delight</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30360468780/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="PA228769"><img alt="PA228769" height="495" src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5581/30360468780_94a088c31b_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
On this other plate, we ordered another two different pastries and I reckon we got a tie this round. The Winter Delight was very similar in approach to the Summer Delight with the addition of the chocolate which brought a sense of nuttiness and warmth to the plate. The Opera cake on the other hand, is full on indulgence without an overbearing sweetness. Lots of melting moment as I savoured each bite. Quite a rare moment considering how I keep telling people that I am not a sweet tooth!</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Bites by D is definitely a new favourite of mine. While the likes of Chu Bakery, La Belle Sweets and Choux Cafe were really good, I felt that l enjoyed the cakes at Bites by D more. In saying that though, whenever Bites by D is hosting a high tea the environment is quite full on with no noise containment whatsoever. So if you are a group of 4 sitting near the group of 20 people having high tea, you might feel a little outnumbered and rightfully so. Even then, where pastries matters Bites by D came tops!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Most pastries aren’t really my kind of thing but Matcha is. When I heard that a new patisserie in town was serving Matcha filled croissant, I was super keen. Best of all its not too far from where I live. La Belle Sweets in Lathlain recently opened their door to the public and the social media has covered them pretty well. From catchy Pokemon cakes to delicious looking pastries, La Belle Sweets has it all. </div>
</div>
<div class="p1">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sitting places are extremely limited which made it feel like a takeaway place. Fortunately, we got a spot and that was nice! Between the us, we got coffee and some pastries to share. </div>
</div>
<div class="p1">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142554368@N03/30015148352/in/dateposted-public/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="P9238713"><img alt="P9238713" height="563" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5556/30015148352_404694436d_c.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The pastry chef’s skills is unquestionable with the layers of the croissants defined so very clearly. Buttery, flakey and super fresh. Everything one the table was pretty decent! However, I felt like there could be more Matcha cream in the croissant as it was not much! I guess sometimes there is an expectation in life that when you open something like that and the Matcha just bowls you over haha. This was probably just nice. La Belle Sweets’ Matcha cream itself is sensational. Strong flavoured, not to sweet with that strong kick of grassy Matcha note. Just what I wanted!</div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My morning at La Belle Sweets was rather short but it was time well spent. The pastries we had that morning were several of the many that La Belle Sweets pump out of the oven. My over all experience was unquestionably positive. In saying that note that I am not a sweets person. So if you are a sweet tooth you might be in quite some trouble!</div>
