D3100: New Player in Town.

It’s 2.30am and I’m not really up to anything so I thought, “Why not come on?”. And so I did.  Here I am now, going to show to all of you, my new camera!! :P! A big gift from the little darling and my mates.  Much thanks and love to the little darling.  And my friends, arigato!!!! Since purchasing it, I have been using it quite a fair bit and boy its not simple.  I thought like my camera, all it does when I take a photo was one click.  But apparently not.  When I press the shutter, it does a double snap with a noise that goes like  *grr*  *grr*.  Sounds like its asking for some doggy treats but sorry.  Don’t see any mouth to feed treats into it.  Ok now I’m really talking rubbish! HAhahah!
Nikon-D3100-Entry-level-DSLR-front
D3100.  Bought it for RM1900 at Damansara Uptown on top of the bicycle shop next to Park Village Cafe.  Owner was super nice and friendly!

I have not been using it to its fullest potential just yet.  I have tinkered with the aperture, manual and shutter speed priority modes as of now.  Been having some problems with macro.  And I found that I get the best macros when I use the manual mode and with the auto-focus switched off.  Which means I need to focus the lens, zoom the lens and click the shutter after I set the ISO, the shutter speed and the aperture.  Oh god bless me.  But I LIKE IT.  I feel involved at every level of photography mechanics.  And fortunately, my favourite subject, food, has no problem staying still for me!:P

The camera also boasts one of the friendliest guide mode in its class. This mode is perfect for people who have absolutely no idea what the camera is capable of. It has features all packed into one mode.  It is pretty much an auto mode but lets you spin one of the dials hoping to make you feel like a professional.  But all you really do is just control the shutter speed/aperture.  HAhahahaha.

On a different note, the little darling is somewhere in Switzerland skiing and hitting kids with her ski rods.  Sounds fun!  And now, there are more reasons to like the IPhone4.  Free calls anywhere, so long as there is internet :)!!

The little darling.  Her hair seems a little bushy. hahahaha.  The frost probably got her Keratin all hardened at molecular level.

And that’s me, and the toy.

Ok now, only 10 minutes have passed.  God the night is long.

Winter Solstice Festival: Just One

Last night, mom made me roll little balls of flour to prepare for today’s festival celebration.  Colourful they were in red and white, but they would normally come in green too.  Funnily enough, so much work had to be done for just three people.  It was only going to be mom, dad and I since most of the relatives are overseas.  Nevertheless, rolling the dough was fun, as it brought back childhood memories. The countless plate of dough that I have rolled up till this very day.
It also had me thinking of the random days in Perth where a sudden craving for dessert would drive me to the kitchen.  Get the stove ready, in goes the pandan leave to make the syrup before putting in the Tang Yuen hoho!  And today, mom made super a lot food for the three of us.  Roast pork, steamed chicken, fish, butter prawns, Tang Yuen and my new favourite, the arrowhead root cooked with minced meat with fermented bean curd and cilantro!! Ohhh yeah!  Below is a macro of it.

DSC_0007
Just one problem aye?  There is only one picture. And omg, I actually took 20+ shots of it before picking this one from the lot.  It was hell difficult for god knows what reason. The lens won’t focus. In the end, I decided to not take the rest of the food! Oh, and apparently a good macro lens  for foodies like me will require a lens such as the Nikon 60mm AF-S Micro-Nikkor which costs 1500 bucks or the 105mm one, which would cost a whopping 3000 bucks.  NOooooooooooooo.   Ok still lots to learn, but first, time for supper :P!

Birthday Presents & Christmas Wishes.

The title is funny isn’t it?  Most of the time it would be birthday wishes and Christmas presents.  Not necessarily so, but more often than not; for me at very least.  But this birthday, I have received so much that it is really quite unnecessary to receive anymore in the coming festivity.  Some presents made me richer, some touched me emotionally and some in both ways.
The little darling surprised me in the most unexpected ways.  Working hard for my brand new toys instead of spending it on herself during her Europe trip, preparing a lovely card, and even a set of homemade bear finished with our unofficial “couple tee”.
DSC_0003
The birthday card.  Its not the outside, but the inside that melted my heart. Still does.

The homemade bear that her designer friend made for me.  It is quite shocking to know how much she does to surprise me @.@!  Will try to make up for that when she comes to visit me again in January!

DSC_0032
I’m not exaggerating right?  WenY for me Ling for her.  Even the shirt matches the  exact colour of the ones we have. *faints from awesomeness*!

So what’s for my Christmas wish? Well, there is a certain song which I’ve chosen for this because they say if you tell your wish it might not come true.
“Do you remember what you wished for every Christmas?
Do you say a prayer and send it on a star?
Well maybe I'm just being over sentimental.
But now its Christmas and I miss us most of all..”
It’s only Christmas, Ronan Keating.
And it’s not even Christmas yet !!

Kuala Lumpur: Morning on the Older Side of Town.

Just yesterday, I slept at 5 in the morning and after merely sleeping for 4 hours, my dad woke me up… *yawns*! It was time to get ready and head of to the big city.  KL is massive and although I have been there quite a fair bit, I have absolutely no idea how to get around in town.  @.@!  Such a noob but oh well, life goes on.

The first stop was for breakfast.  We went to a place called Selayang, which I assume is an older part of KL.  Some pictures I took using my Iphone when we crossed through the market from the car park.
photo (1)
Does not look very different from a typically wet market on a Saturday morning. Oh, but the air is a little dirtier I realise.

After walking through the market along Jalan Tiong Nam, we sat by a large tree to have our meal.  The lady does her business on a mobile stall.  From the picture above, we sat at the big tree which should be quite obvious ahah.  And she sells…
photo
Yummy fish ball noodles soup :).  I liked the fried fish ball in particular.  Very yummy.  I was starving and did not bother much about the dodgy surrounding.  It really did not matter with my stomach growling so loudly.  The price was good, the taste was good.  What else was there to complain about?  This lady only works in the morning and charges 4 bucks for a hearty bowl of noodle soup only.  It is really cheap.  And GOOD.

Once we were done, dad, aunty and my cousin visited an old apartment which my grandfather used to own.  Now that his time has passed, its been left to his “kids” to manage.  It is really old I must insist.  With only 2 lifts servicing the whole place, things can get pretty tiring when it breaks down.  Not to mention, this place has drug pushers and sort =X!  God damned scary.  Back in those days, living here was a luxury.  Not so much of a luxury now huh?  But it has served its time I’d suppose.  Plus is has views too.  No sight of the KL tower or the twin tower, KLCC but a bit of the skyline of this ever growing city of chaos.
photo (2)
The newer side of the city from the old building!

That is it for my morning.  Time to get some sleep :P and oh, I have decided to bring my camera out for real.  No more forgetting :P!  Hoping to get some nice pictures up ahaha!

Cari Makan: Breakfast stall @ Pasar Pagi Taman Megah

The food scene in Malaysia is immense. While there is no Michelin ranted hype nor the fancy pansy hatted awards in Australia, the yummiest bites in Malaysia can come from the simplest and most unglamorous places.  This simplest place is no further than the local morning market (pasar pagi).  Cleanliness might be a concern for most.  But for me, I’m a true local.  I could not care less.
However, a few steps have been taken by the local authority to improve the cleanliness of these places and one such step is by setting up proper complexes to house the vendors.  A bit saddening because the “pasar” feel is now a distant memory.  But that is ok, the old Chinese couple operating the brekkie stall in the market is still there :).  My mom and dad gets food from them for me on the weekends ho!ho!  So, what are my breakfast picks from this stall?

The economy fried noodles.
IMG_0341
There is practically nothing on there besides heaped carbs. But that is all I really need for a good start to my day.  The taste is unbeatable.  It might not be the typical Malay sambal but it looks down on every sambal/chilli paste in Australia.  And do not be fooled by the word economy.  The old couple charge a premium for it but that is probably the privilege they earn from the ever growing crowd!

My next pick is the Nasi Lemak Biasa.  Yes, the serve is small in Malaysia and 2 is just about nice for me!
IMG_0346
Small little nibble sized crispy anchovies are the secret addition to this packed little goodness.  And I always complain about how cafes serve half an egg.  Look at this.  Probably one tenth of an egg. WTF. =.=!  Nonetheless, it was every bit as enjoyable as the fried noodles.
On a separate note, this rice dish and I go a long time back to primary school where my usual routine is guy punching and girl fighting.  Waking up at 6.45am to eggs and milk did not fill me up.  So my dad used to bring my lunch box to this couple to be filled with the exact same dish with added curry chicken :)!  And how long ago was that?  I’d say 15 years.  Yes folks!  15 years and they are still serving.  They’d probably be driving Mercs and Beemers by now.

That is all I shall talk about today.  Lovely morning breakfast packed by mom and dad.  Awesome possum thanks parents!

Bites: Levain Boulangerie Patisserie @ Kuala Lumpur

It has been a splendid holiday so far.  Mom and dad spent a few days last week to bring my sis and I around town.  One of the places we ate at, was Levain Boulangerie Patisserie.  It is the talk of the town  and is still pretty hot from what I observed.  The place is packed even before lunch time and I believe, even crazier during lunch time itself.  We went there at 11 for brunch as advised by the baker.  This was because most of the stuff comes out fresh from the oven at that time.  Mom, dad and sis went there once for evening tea, and there was hardly anything left :’-(.

IMG_0299One of the photos with the effect from Instagram.  I love that logo of theirs next to the name.  The girl with a bike which has a trolley attached to it, filled with French loaves.  It adds class to an already fancy name.  Or maybe it only applies to me who is illiterate in French. xD!   “Boulangerie” Okkkkkkkkkkk!  As if I know what that means, but it does not matter.  In the end, it is the money and taste that tells me whether I should be back here for a second time.

On the food, I do not have individual pictures, but I do have a bunch of stacked up pastries :)!

IMG_0298

On the top right is a pastry with macadamia and pistachios.  It has a sweetish crust with nuts and seed sin it.  Really delicious and simple.  But, nothing gets simpler than the donut twist in the middle, my sister loves it.  But truth be said, she would fall for any similar doughnut sold at any other bakeries!  The Mango cheese tart is the first one I’m having in my trip back to Malaysia, and I love it.  I love pretty much everything which cheese.  Not sure what a picky eater would say.  And on the bottom left, we have the curry chicken doughnut.  It was yummy as well.  And not on picture was the turkey pizza.  I kinda liked it.  Very cheesy and generous on ingredients!  Verdict?  OMG.

Is this all so truthfully delicious or am I just psyched up from my holiday mood.  My mom frequents this place when she was placed in KL; bringing her friends and clients for business talk and sort, and she says its a nice place.  But I cannot really tell. Moreover,  I have never been a big fan of pastries.  I just love eating. Oh, and something happened here.  My mom’s coffee had lipstick stain. so she demanded a change and we got something for free, a Durian Cheesecake!! Uh-oh!!

IMG_0300The complementary Durian Cheesecake, or more like a compensation from going into a lawsuit.  What can I say about it? Cheesy, yummy, and oh, free!

The environment here is nice and pleasant.  Pretty quiet too!  Also, the prices for the pastries are decent.  About 3-5 ringgit each depending on what you pick.  But the killer for me were the drinks. Coffee starts at 8 a cup.  Iced Chocolate goes for 12 bucks.  That was all a bit crazy!  Nonetheless, what you pay, you get.  Its quality stuff here!!!Rwarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! More updates soon!!

@ : HOME.

It has almost been 1 week since I left Perth for Malaysia.  The remaining days in Perth were spent cleaning, packing and putting out all the unnecessary rubbish.  Hopefully, with the house in place, we can find a new one soon hohoho!  One of the main activity was laundry and because we were a bit short of time for a few clothing items, we went to the laundro-bar at Broadway.
IMG_0294
One look at its number plate, and it is without a doubt a Chinese man’s car ahaha.

On the 1st of Dec, XL and I took a taxi to the airport. Had to talk to the taxi driver about how good Indian food is and everything to keep him awake!  Xin Ling thought I was weird for one moment but hey, he was driving half asleep at 130 km per hour!!  Better safe than sorry!!

After going through the crazy check-in queue, we headed right to the departure lounge and waited for our turn to board the plane!! This picture was taken on the plane just as it settled at a good altitude!

Ripe Pickings: My Trip’s Jolly Trolley

Firstly, I have no idea what sort of name I have just decided for this post of mine.  Its some random thing which I made up.  Since coming back from my Albany trip, I have only written one blog entry on it.  After the laziness in me subdued, I have decided to wrap up the entire trip in one post.  But in a different way from how I would normally do it.  I will exclusively use my Iphone pictures crossed with creations from Instagram to rock this post ;-)!    Hope you people will enjoy the pictures ahah.

IMG_0268
This was one of the photos I snapped while Fishman sped through the hilly asphalt roads of the South.  Goddammit! We made a pact to take it slow. So I travelled below 150 kmph at all times.  And that smarty-pants?  He was doing 160kmph.  Con people only!! Aaaaaaa.   Nonetheless, the drive was enjoyable at all times.  When I grow up with a nice ride.  Ho!Ho!Ho!  I’ll happily drive through these places again!  Oh god, and really, with the roads being so straight, it really makes me wonder why the other cars were crawling behind @.@!

IMG_0269

One of the nicest towns to visit down South is Augusta.  The charm of this little town down South can be easily labelled as simple awesomeness.  Foreign travellers looking for migrating whales will be surprised with their other findings if the whales have not already surprised them.  Serendipity?  Maybe.  I took this picture on the way to Augusta and decided to give it a “Katy Perry – Teenage Dream” touch as the little darling calls it.  I used Instagram, the little program with magical tools.

IMG_0278
The trip down South was fulfilling in many ways.  A subject of my fulfilment was disappointment.  Weird aye!? Who would find disappointment a good experience? I have seen plenty of it and experienced plenty of it.  The simplicity of having expectations is clearly an explanation. Adding on, who said chameleons and jelly fish are the only ones with changing colours?

For this, a friend educated me on selfishness.  The picture on the left is the patches of cloud and the fence leading to the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse.  A certain friend was left disappointed there.  It draws a scene which fits the song Despair in the Departure Lounge by the Arctic Monkeys.  But he comprehended it pretty damn well.  Awesome possum!  Like this picture, there was no lighthouse because he did not see any :(!

IMG_0267
Ahh, the lovely house we stayed in at Margaret River.  This house surpassed our expectations in every aspect.  It’s plans were carefully laid out for maximum comfort. The owners meticulously decorated each room with unique themes such as safari, wasabi, ski lodge, Japanese and sort.  Class act!  This house was our host for two days of stay!!

IMG_0280
On the last day, we toured around the Margaret River area. This picture was taken at the Berry Farm.  Bought a couple of jam jars home for my parents.  Strawberry Kirsch Jam and an Apricot flavoured was my pick after testing the many flavours offered :D!
Oh, something that I must bring to your attention is the bottle  inspired “chandelier” that was used to decorate the shop. I thought it looked pretty damn cool.  It is a nature loving act I’d suppose?

Tadaaaaaa:
IMG_0279
After touring around Margaret River, we were in a bit of a rush because the little darling decided to do a favour for the holiday home owner’s friend who needed to deliver 4 crates of wine to a restaurant which I frequent for dim sum.  I loved the idea and found it to be very thoughtful, but others could not comprehend the idea.  O well.  If everyone sees the same good, it would be insulted to be a trait of communism, otherwise, it is just the way humans are.  Divided, racist or unique. Good or bad, you decide :P!

The last stop of the trip was the famous jetty at Busselton.  Unfortunately it has been under repair works since 3 years ago or so.  Is this the result of bureaucracy and an organised government action?  Yes.  Probably an overrated one.
IMG_0282
But that is alright.  The jetty is still a beauty and Iphone did capture it pretty damn well!  I have been here plenty of times but it is still very picturesque.

Right after this, we sped home and got the crates of wine delivered.  All 48 bottles.  But because we did not have enough space in the boot, so I had to sit like a Buddha in the car with my legs folded.  There were 12 bottles of wine in the front sit @.@!  Epic-ness.

Ok mates, this is probably the shortest blog entry I have done on my holiday before.  Might get a few more pictures up.  If I do, it will be proper ones from my camera.  But at the moment, all the pictures are up on facebook, so no hurry aye?!

Filling in the Gap: The best combination.

39 degrees.  That is the weather in Western Australia at the moment.  Tomorrow, we might see it peak at 40 maybe?  Me and heat, that is a cursed combination.  Yesterday, XL and I went to Carousel to catch the new Harry Potter movie.  While I’m not the biggest Potter fan on screen, the new movie impresses when compared to its predecessor.  Lunch time was kept simple, McDonalds for the win.  A nice large value meal with cold drinks to quench my thirst!

IMG_0203

McDonalds.  The great combination a.k.a McChicken McValueMeal

I have always thought of the McValue meal at Meccas as great value.  Awesome combination that fills me up to the brim with added satisfaction in the process.  One of the best things about McD is the apparent consistency that is present now matter how far apart the restaurants are.  The one in Australia pretty much tastes the same like the one in KL, so does the branch in Hong Kong.  It is pretty damn wicked, sick is it not?  This makes some restaurants pretty damn shit.  Same restaurant, same chef, same food, different day, different taste.  This especially applies to all the Malay and Indian restaurants back home in KL.  But I guess this consistency comes with all the hype and experiments regarding how long can the food last before rotting.  But truth be said, no one cares.

Ok enough ranting about McDonalds.  After the Potter movie, all of us, including the guys that have finished exam headed for a swim down at the Victoria Park AquaLife centre.  5 bucks rip off!!  Did not really enjoy the swim there.  After the swim, it was dinner time.  A bunch of overjoyed engineers and steamboat was on the schedule.  But the weather killed us all.  Despite buying just enough food, I was full even though I did not eat much.  It was so saddening.  Sitting at the table, I saw all the balls floating around the broth.  This again was all thanks to the stupid weather.  Summer and steamboat, officially the worst combination EVER.  Ok enough complaints.

Off to bed I go.  Time to enjoy the comfort of an antique air conditioning systems.

Bites: Atomic @ Mends Street, South Perth.

It has been ages, since I last had a cuppa.  The usual places would be Tiamo @ Nedlands or Dome  @ anywhere.  Or perhaps, after dinner over coffee talk.  Just yesterday, the little darling and I decided to head over to South Perth for a drink before coming back home.  Dome would have been an automated choice, but something different would be good aye?  Yea? Yea?  Haha!!  But this time around, we decided to go to Atomic Cafe @ Mends street.  It is just opposite Dome.  The drinks there tasted OK.  Xin Ling had an orange juice.  Sugar free, 100% orange.  This and that but jeez.  It was sour.  Upon tasting it my hair spiked & balls dropped.  But it is ok, girls have their reasons for enjoying the acidity I’d reckon?

But for me, I will do it the kids way..

With the mercury topping temperatures this spring paired with a century-long heat record broken, this remedy was divine.  But sadly, I’m not Aussie enough to appreciate the finesse in a barrister’s effort.  Froth.  I enjoy a thick layer of froth though :D!  Does that count?

Filling in the Gap: My Lady Luck!

Most people know my stories.  From the outside, it is pictured like a grasshopper, but inside, its really just incompatibility.  But when you find your very own charmer, it does not need a second thought.  It is simply just too obvious.  The riddles are self-explanatory and it all comes together.  The busy year slipped through like a breeze despite the entanglements involved.

The no. 88 is a simple Chinese representation of prosperity.  Depicted above is mine.  But there are a few other ladies in my life.  My mom, sister, grandmother and a few others.  I must really thank them for all the ease and encouragement they have brought to my live.  For some, their presence alone makes a difference.

Filling in the Gap: Exams?.. Over?

It is funny that I’m blogging about examination period coming to an end for me. This is so considering the time that has passed since the engaging period of my 4th year came to an end.  But there is a certain difference when you finish exam alone, and, when your partner  or friends finishes with you. Alone its funny.  They study while you spend the whole day killing aliens or invading Vietnam.  But since Xin Ling finished her exam two days ago, CR today and the rest of the mates on Thursday or so, this calls for a celebration ey>? Haha!!! A little bit on the premature side but after I went to pick up a cake for the little darling after brunch at a new dim sum restaurant.

Holidays :)!  15 years of exams and counting.  We never stop learning do we?

The old skool math.

Picking up this new pair of kicks was as if Nike Harbour Town is starting to get back on track.  The ultramarine coloured retro Air 180 was definitely a good pick up after a long time being out of action.  Did not even have to hesitate! Dream came true too cheap a price.  Funny thing is though, little darling thought I picked up the pair of sneaks to get the extra 50% off our shoes.  Oops did I mention 50% off?

Later on that week my dream came true happened once again when YH, Xin Ling and I visited the all time favourite Japanese Chef Akira-san at Kanta.  The restaurant named after his horse is like the best-EST ever for the price we paid.  Its like diamond sold as copper.

The Japanese calls this Teriyaki, I call it Kung Fu.

We happily finished the weekend nibbling on squid legs, raw beef salad and lovely sushi at the place.  Yi Heng was as happy as a foody can be.  Eating slice by slice of his sliced duck steak while Xin Ling happily kept on commenting on her springy noodles in the chicken ramen.  Cannot get enough for sure.  Previous post on the restaurant below:

As simple as: ABC 123

fooddyyy yum yum!  Last week ended the winter with a whole lot of steam.  The last steamboat for winter at my sister’s house was in every way as pleasing as how a winter’s meal should be.  Lots of balls, vegetables and meat to cook in the awesome herbal pork broth!  My sister does her broth with scallops and mushrooms! Yummy!  And then on the Sunday, we headed to Hillarys for a drink to chill out.  Had some hot chocolate and yummy Churros by the harbour.  The distance is worth the good view you get I must insist!
Back Camera
Not the best picture but its Iphone material.

Also, this week the whole 4th year civil engineers goes incognito leaving the world with a bit of peace as the mid semesters take place.  But the little darling has her way in making sure the Leurians get their nutrition right.

And her last dish was a new try out.  She has never cooked this type of vegetable before, but then she thought, why not? ahah

IPhone4: The free gift from my telco.

Jeng jeng jeng, I posted on my Facebook not too long ago that I was hopeful to get my  iphone4 not too long after the Friday launch day in Australia.  I was promised a delivery on the morning of the launch only to be disappointed by the lack of knowledge by the call centre.  But that was really not a biggie because after a couple of phone calls, the phone arrived just three days later.  And here we have the two iphone in the house ahah.  When Vanessa comes then we will have three hoho!

IMG_7367
The best thing about the phone is its looks.  Not the facetime bullshit that does not even work with 3G.  It only works with wifi.  Gawd that is saddening!  Not to mention, transferring the contacts are a pain in the ass unless you are the most organised computer expert who keeps all the details in MS Outlook.  I believe not even 1% of the population does so =.=!

But enough rants, this shit is a beauty. The retina display is not joke.  Just like how HD on my new Fujitsu brings the Book of Eli to a new level compared to the aging Toshiba one.  The screen is clear and games look crisp.  Ok, a bit of exaggeration here considering the only games I’ve played is Angry Bird and Fruit Ninja ahah.
IMG_7366
His and Hers.  slurrpsss.  In Malaysia I hear they sell for over 3000 ringgit each =X.  $$$!!

Ok some emergency calls for me!!!  Got to go! Light speed ahead gooooooooooooooo!!

Melbourne Trip II: Queen Victoria Market

Its been a hectic week with little sleep.  But watching Spain advance from one stage to another, however makes up for that.  My first few days was spent around the city for shopping and eating.  One of the places where I had my very first meal was at the Queen Victoria Market.

Morning brekkie:
Bratwurst to share!
IMG_6696
This place has been here for ages.  And that applies to the crowd too.  Its not the best thing ever but it tastes quite good.

After that Xin Ling and I had:
IMG_6707

Does anyone else remember these little jam filled delights? At only 90 cents, these are Krispy Kreme beaters!!  But these dry guys need a refreshment which is easily found all over QVM:
IMG_6711
xD.

Oh and in my last post I wrote about some Solo performance at the Moon which was totally emo?  There was this other guy playing music in the market and he was fabulous.  He added serenades the atmosphere with a happy feel.  So unlike the performance the other guy did at the Moon.
IMG_6712

Ok folks, thats all for now.  Will continue updating as soon as I can because I have tonnes of pictures to post up!

Despair in the Departure Lounge.

Moon I’m finally setting off to the Melbourne in less than an hours time.  But the brain is no longer feeling the excitement.  Maybe its just how sad the domestic airport really is.  Bleah!  So uncool.  Nothing much to eat, to shop or even see! Damn!  Wonder where all the money the spent on went.  Hmmmm…?  Probably just on the undercover walk path!  But its ok.  I’ll be meeting the little girl again soon!  And shopping too! Hohoho!  On last night however was no different.  A joyous yet somewhat saddening occasion.  Not sure whether was it the music or that one of my besties are leaving forever(ok not so, he’s coming back in two months time).  Last night I was out chilling with Yobi and fishman.  Fishman is not leaving but Yobi is! Dang!  He’s pretty emo about this whole thing too, but the apple strudel should cheer him up a bit.  This again is one of my old man lines but, I really cannot believe how far we have come in our lives.  Its an achievement for sure.

Yesterday night we headed to the Moon for some live music.  The place has and always been outstanding.  Ambience, crowd and food.  Love their catchy logo too! Their interior of junk was no difference.  Its arrangement was a wizardry of cosiness and comfort with a hint of laziness on its old couches.

Nothing gets better than hot chocolate on a chilly winter night.  Ok maybe not so, a good company has similar praise as well.  Whether its for a good chat or to snug with, good company never dies!

For the night we had some Jesus/Russel Brand inspired emo-kid strumming his tunes all night long.  I think that dude was on for at least an hour. And god his tunes were @.@!  Not sure how they found him but I only liked his 2nd song.  And that is like 1/10?

Date Night Bites: Oliver’s @ Northbridge

After the exams on Friday, I had a small celebration at the Mexican Villa with my sister and mates but that was just a little fire starter I promise.  Next Thursday I’d be running down Swanston in Melbourne like a mad man.  Probably ransacking every single nook and cranny for food.  From the largest restaurants to the little hidden lots in Central. My god I can’t wait for Melbourne.  The trip I booked for, months ago is now just a stone’s throw away.  Its all so awesome!  But meanwhile, as I let time catch up with me, I’ve been out and about eating the quantity I have missed during the mugging period.

On Monday was a fine night out with a special person at a certain restaurant I’ve not visited in ages.  I suggested Oliver’s for a good night out ;-)!  We started off with a little starter in which its size had us startled.

8 slices like any pizza.  The sweet onion Bianca was quite a delicious eat :D!  She didn’t like it too sweet and this was OK for her.  But I think it was not ahah.  But in the end she ate just as much me hoho!  Not quite true :P She ate half a slice lesser than me.  I think she would have preferred the Bianca @ Sphagi in South Perth better.

Soon after the appetizer arrived, we ordered our mains.  Not sure what's with her and people but oh they liked her so.  The waitress was like “What would you like darling?” and that was just the beginning of the many “darlings” she had that night.  I ordered a fillet steak that night.  The description sounded fantastic.  “Pan Seared Fillet Steak with Wood Roasted Capsicum, Tomato and Basil Salsa on a Buttered Rocket Mash”.  And I must insist, the meal sounds and taste as good as it is meant to be.  Liked the way the garnishing has never changed for the past 4 years.  The beef was cooked to order and BAM the mash was good.  The buttered rockets was well done.  It did not exhibit even the slightest hint of bitterness. Kudos to the chef!  I have never liked rockets in my salads.  And that is if I were to even eat salad.

And for the her, she had the Mt. Barker Chicken.   Funny name really, sounds like the free range chicken you’d buy buy the butcher :P!  Regardless of its name, the chicken tasted fantastic.  Liked the way the chef did the stuffing.  The chicken was stuffed with Chorizos, Feta & Sun Blushed Tomatoes.

For all the reasons I have to hate breast meat, this one has none.  No soft bone out of no where, no sad & dry tastelessness, no over charred parts.  I think this was a better pick compared to the beef!

After having our mains and the appetizer, we were filled to the brim.  The cold that has us like hungry ghost remained but the hunger was gone! Yipee! ahah.  But since we’ve already come so far, I thought we might as well have dessert.  She is after all a dessert person!  We had problems deciding.  We liked two desserts but had other ones that we favoured too.  We almost decided to try the Oliver’s Dessert Platter, the waitress managed to tell us its assortment and luckily she did, because what we liked were not on.

Subsequently,..

..my choice was Oliver’s Crème Brulee:

and hers was the Wild Berry and Apple Crumble:

This time my dessert definitely oust hers ahaha!  The size, the sweetness, the complexity.  The Crème Brulee for the win!  This is like the first time I’m eating a proper non-packed one. Pretty saddening considering this is one of my favourite desserts of all time.

Good night, good place.  The first time I came here was when I started studying.  The price gave me a seizure but its all normal now.  Phewh!  Would definitely come back here if I am filling generous.

P.s.: Sorry for the weird lighting!  The restaurant was dim and we were seated not too far away from the street lamppost.
