Kelvin’s Birthday: Ciao Italia!!

It’s been almost three years since I first met Kelvin and oh boy time does pass real quickly.  It’s the 2nd I’m celebrating his birthday, the first being a middle of the night bang into his room to give him his present, an event in which he could barely comprehend with his sleepy face.  But the character however is not much of a mover, other than a few peculiar periods he is still pretty much the same guy.  We celebrated his birthday on the study week before we hit full throttle for the period.  After a few short moments of thinking I was thought, hey why not go to Ciao Italia since we have not been there for ages.

The chef putting his full attention to detail for a soon to be served Mussel in Pesto sauce.

It seems like the place has become a whole lot bigger with the addition of the new dining area on the left.  With weird Italian granddads taking orders coming together with really good food, this place really is a nice place to eat. Minus the waiting time and queue that is.  There are several favourites among the crowd and that would me the Fettuccini Ciao Italia and the Calzone.  God the Calzone is massive taste.  But the my winner of the night was not something served on regular basis.  It was a special.
IMG_6586
The Mussels cook in a basil pesto sauce.  Loved it to bits.  Would have coated fresh pasta with its delicious sauce if it was provided.  Massive stuff.  Unfortunately Ciao Italia does not serve this on a regular basis.

IMG_6593
Fresh tomato salad was heavenly with its zesty flavour.  The filling of the calzone is a hidden weapon.

IMG_6597
The Fettuccini Ciao Italia was a tale of two standards.  My table had an overcooked cream feel while Kelvin’s was perfectly cooked! Damn! Nonetheless, two serves had them tummies filled bottoms up!

IMG_6595
Penne Vodka was nothing much to shout about.  I did not really get the taste.  Maybe I was too busy indulging in the other dishes. =X can’t blame me considering the already plenty number of delicious food on the table.

IMG_6592
The Sweet Chilli King Prawn pizza was Yvonne’s favourite and I can see why with Ciao Italia’s generous portions of toppings :D!

After having our main, we had Ciao Italia’s crew do a birthday quickie for Kelvin!
IMG_6601
Shy with the S was his reaction.  But obviously granddad is having one hell of a time. ahaha

Dessert followed soon after.  No one should give the Tiramisu a miss regardless of how full you are.  A bit drenched in alcohol on that day but its taste still held the word divine in its place.
IMG_6602

Xin Ling one the other hand tried something creative with strawberries overkill.
IMG_6603
You decide the overkill.  But truth be said, the overkill lies in the inside where too much custard killed the dessert.  But I guess I’m just not used to it!!

Ciao Italia is awesome.  No doubt!  Looking forward to a NEXT time.  And truth be said.  With a timely group of people, waits are not all that bad :P!

Exams are over so chow outside *****!

Back to Basics: Eastpak Core Series Floyd!

After many years of having to lug my messenger bags around, I’ve finally fallen back to the basics.  I realise that having a messenger bag is no help when you have a sore back that feels like a 1000 needles prickling your back or a constant burning feeling =(!

My new backpack finally arrived from the UK today! It carries a 15 inch laptop happily along with some books if required!  Weee~~  The price is ok too! About 70 bucks compared to the $120 price tag in Australian shops!

Now all I’m needing is a new laptop to replace the ageing Toshiba which died twice in one day on a cold winter night. OMG?!  Nonetheless a cheap one would suffice!

Bites: Terrazza @ Applecross

It might just be a fortnight ago from my last entry but it feels like forever since I last blogged.  Many things has happened.  From me falling sick to the insane thesis weeks + + loads of other things happening.  This is all too much from my brain to take!!! *fizzles*!  Important dates to remember 7-12-15-18 of June – 2010.  Finals are coming up!  Nonetheless, I’ve been craving for a lot of yummy food this week which… did not turn out too well!  Yesterday I booked Kanta for 6 people.  But I had 7 people in total. My gawd @@! They refuse to sit us.  So we left VERY UNHAPPILY.  The biggest issue was not the fact that we needed to wait.  But it was caused by the fat bitch who so unfriendly replied my requests for an extra sit.  Its not called hospitality for nothing mate.

Today on the other hand we craved for Italian.  We headed to Ciao Italia @ 8 pm hoping for a short wait.  But that ain’t happening buddy.  A table for 6 is a minimum wait of 45 minutes.  Feeling that there was no need to wait, we headed straight to our backup place.  Terazza @ Applecross.  Funny is it not?  I had Ohnamiya at my door step, I went to Applecross.  Now I have Terazza Nedlands, but I am in Applecross for it.  However, it is today that I found a new love.  So what did we order?

My noob sister.

Kelvin’s  Spaghetti Ambrusco.
IMG_6497
He think it is OK only.  I can not help but second his statement.  This noodles lacked taste so badly.  The flavour is so subtle it caused a certain dissatisfaction within me. =X!

Sister’s and Yv’s Penne Mafiosa with Penne being replaced by Spaghetti.
IMG_6502
Top grade pasta @ Hampden road but the quality is not as good here at Applecross.  The tomato taste was too strong for my sister’s liking and the asparagus were on the raw side!

Xin Ling’s Penne Gondola with the Penne changed to Fetuccini.  I can’t help but love the girls.  Their choice to not have Penne is something I agree with so much.  I hate Penne @.@!
IMG_6505
She liked her pasta.   But she could not do it justice and so I finished her bit.  I loved the mixture of sundried tomatoes and mustard when I had it.  Yumms!

My love:
IMG_6506
The lamb shank here is kickass.  I never thought I would order this considering the disastrous shank I had @ the one in Nedlands.  This was definitely different.  The lamb shank here is so tasty and oh, the ever so lovely mash that came with it was fantabulous @.@! My sister and Xin Ling thought it was a yummy dish as well.  I bet they were jealous they did not order this hohoho!
IMG_6508
Another view of the lamb shank!

We were done for after the meal.  Or at least I was done for.  I had the lamb shank, some of XL’s fettuccini gondola and my sister’s ala vodka.  Filled to the rim!! But the girls look like they’ve just started after the meal and were craving for some tiramisu.  XL on the other hand opted for a cheesecake to share!
IMG_6515
Tiramisu @ Terazza!
IMG_6511
Mmmm, may the Fat be with you. xD!  It was too bitter for Xl and I.  Probably signifying an alcohol overdose.  But my sis seemed fine with it.  She and Yv finished two of this Tiramisu.  Once each!

IMG_6509
The Pina Colada cheesecake.  As its name suggests, this cake had a tropical intent with a liquor weapon.  While I am a fan of tropical, I’m not quite so keen with liquor.  The Pineapple tasted like its been swimming in alcohol its whole life and gosh, even the shredded coconut was liquor-ed!  @.@!  It should be nice to some people, but just not me!!

Terazza is a place that I would come to eat quite a fair bit every semester.  Maybe 2-3 times?  The food here is always decent although the pricing is a bit more expensive than other restaurants.  The one in Applecross is no exception.  Yummy food.  Oh, but note that the covered outdoor sitting was crap.  It suddenly became a waterfall during the rain @@!  Glad we sat just at the border between the alfresco and the inside dining area.  One thing I realise is that the quality of the food varies from one location to another despite being the exact same thing.  The Ala Vodka is usually superb @ Hampden while this one is just “OK” only.  The lamb shank here is awesome when compared to the one @ Hampden road.  OMG! Dilemma dilemma.  Next time:

If you’re feeling like pasta –> Hampden
And if you’ are feeling like Lamb Shank –> Applecross.

Life: The Hail & the “new” car.

Yesterday, the most insane shit happened in Perth.  Even my elderly neighbours haven’t seen such a disaster for the last decade they were staying on Leura Street.  “Ice-meteor”!  How bad did it turn out to be? There are thousands of pictures on the facebook group “I’ve survived the great storm of Perth”, but these are mine:

This is the back of my house, the laundry room area.
IMG_6175
Looks awe-SOME!

What was worse? Well take a look at my “new” car.  Only 1 month old ahaha.  Never introduced to most of my friends before and now the grand opening:
IMG_6167
BAM!  Damages?  Rear Windscreen, Left Tail Light, Both Side Mirrors + 1000 dents on the car.  Yh’s car was no better.  His car was towed of yesterday and tomorrow will be my turn!

From across the neighbour’s place, Xin Ling and Kelvin could hear the man swearing “f*ck, f*ck & f*ck”!   Rwarrrr!
IMG_6181
Ice kacang anyone?  I woke up to clean the yard today and NORRMAL, still got ice @ 11am!.

IMG_6179
The storm left Nedlands with a different feeling.  A mess, a disaster zone.  You know you’ve just got “punk-ed” by god.  Nonetheless, after the rain the sky was very pretty! Liked how it ended really. Thought the house held up well together against the disaster!

Awesome sky!

AFK: Lost and Back.. Again.

Not sure what’s been keeping me away from my blog for a gazillion years but o well I think its always good to make a come back.  For the past month or so, much has happened.  A new retarded housemate, a new car and a new semester.  Been doing LOTS of grocery, a typical white house activity.  My weight loss program has been rather grim, but reading how the dude representing M’sia in the Biggest Loser program lose 60kg, I feel rather pumped to continue shedding unnecessary bulk!  Maybe a 65 would be more realistic rather than 60 hoho.

What have I been doing mm!  Well to start, I think we’ve been feasting like pigs.  A couple of house steamboats, and one barbecue at Applecross.  Or actually it was TWO barbecue events.  Oh and I started working for RGIS again.  Made my first 85 bucks of the year.  Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be the last @@!

mY hair all spiked out and err Hatim and his bro Saifuddin.  Saifudin kept on telling me the custom would think he is a terrorist @ the airport!

Oh and yes I went to some friend’s convocation! Mmmm the so very lovely fruit tartlets!

When You Were Young: Home Cooked Food.

What were the little things in life that you actually liked best When You Were Young?  Was it the food mom and dad cooked?  The brainless friends you were with?  Or perhaps the pets you used to have for company everyday before school and after school?  How about every single thing I’ve just mentioned above?  Weird thing for me to bring this up.  But I realised after the meal yesterday, it really is quite something to have it all together.

IMG_5996
My mom and the dinner spread of Nasi Lemak.  One of my usual breakfast food every Saturday when I’m in Malaysia!

I asked my mom to cook up something for my friends since Jim’s mom called us over a few times already.  My mom was keen, and I knew she would somewhat be keen considering how boring Perth is.

The best part would be the chicken sambal!  It doesn’t taste like the tomato-ish Malay kind but I just like it.  Something I’ve been luvin since I was young ahah.  Of course there were other dishes as well such as the petai beans with anchovies, boiled eggs etc.
IMG_5997

My sister’s new pup! Cookie hoho! A retarded little fella this one is.  Super hyper and loves to stick that tongue out keeping it ready for a good lick.
IMG_5995
I used to have like 100000000 dogs when I was young.  Only 1 died.  A few had to be given to the pound because people kept leaving their dogs outside my gate and another two got stolen.  Dang I love dogs!

And now where are the pictures of Yobi, Vil, Jim and CR? Hmmmm I guess I didn’t need to take any because they’re all in my head.

After that was late night movie @ Carousel.  Manage to get 8.50 tickets for the Wolfman despite them putting a notice that Wolfman is not entitled to free or discounted tickets ahah

Festivity: Chinese New Year in Perth

IMG_5967 It is that time of the year again where I would have a reunion dinner with my family members. While the celebration did not have the Chinese New Year atmosphere, that familiar semblance of festivity is all around me.   The usual food, people and chatters.  Pretty much nothing was missing besides two more families.  But being in Perth, I’m grateful to even have a reunion dinner with both my family and my extended one hoho!  One funny thing I felt today is that I am the youngest among everyone @@! That rarely ever happens.  Maybe my cousins will get married and have kids soon HAhaha.

Today’s reunion dinner was at my uncle’s place!
IMG_5961
The setup!

IMG_5959
This was meant to be the adults table.  Until dinner, I was pretty much hiding inside the house listening to my cousins talk while I watch Malcom in the Middle.  Super multitasking.  Taking picture, watching comedy & listening to conversations xD!!  It was quite cold actually.  My cousin told me the beach was 300 metres away or something.  Or was it 3kms? hmmm

IMG_5965
Family talk all over.  Inside outside backside !!

IMG_5966
Uncle’s wife in action.  Cooking cooking cooking! Yummmss!

After watching Malcom in the Middle, there was a “kids” table laid out with additional bowls for that certain activity before dinner? Want to guess what that “activity” is?  I’ll give you a picture’s worth of time to think about it!
IMG_5968
Flying table cloth lol.  My uncle’s place is super windy at time. Oh and I had no idea where that “picture’s worth” of time came up from.  But anyways, it’s the “loh sang” thingy that the Chinese do during most dinners during the Chinese New Year period which spans for a ridiculous 14 days.

IMG_5969
Aunty’s super modern “loh sang”  With Salmon slices > than anything else, this is a “wow” factor for sashimi lovers.  DEFINITELY.  But I’m not the biggest fan out there.  I recall my first time having sashimi in Malaysia...  it was followed by horrible diarrhoea.

IMG_5970
Plan view. xD!!

IMG_5971
looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh –sang!

IMG_5973
The Lee’s in their tossing action.  Longevity, wealth, errr kids>?, good education and everything else you would want.

IMG_5977
Dinner spread and after that I got to lazy to take pictures of anything that came after!  Too busy feasting :)!!

Happy CNY everyone!  Hope everyone makes their wishes and at the same time pray for the wellbeing of others!!  Oh, do not forget to collect all those fat red packets!!  Good luck to all the house visitors in their collection :)!!
