Bangkok’s Walking: Traveling Day 1 End!

After the meal we headed back to the hotel, not before a couple of shots of the surrounding though :P!

This is one of Thailand’s main attraction for tourists! The “tut tut” they call it. But with them charging about 150 baht one way, it really is a “tuuuuut tuuuuut”! Who would pay that much money for such a poor ride? A ride in an air conditioned Toyota Altis would not even cost half as expensive in some circumstances!
IMG_3313
This is a random picture of a Thai kid playing along the road while his parents handles the clothing store! He somewhat reminds of me when I was young @.@ I kind of look like him man! OMG lol!
IMG_3314
After a good shower in the hotel we checked out some of the shopping places in town. The shops really impressed with their designs and quality. Most of them would put the t-shirts on a large display wall making it look real cool too!
IMG_3321

After buying some shirts we were out to discover the uncharted.  Uncharted for us at least ahah!Walking through a side alley filled with stall selling products ranging from clothes to dvds to food.
IMG_3325
Quiz : Can you spot the tranny? lol! :D

leave answers in the chat box on the right!! ehehe!

More busy streets along the adventure. And wow! I was amazed by the buses which were super old! You will only find mini buses in M’sia in that kind of state.
IMG_3327

And then I decided I needed a refuel. So we stopped by one of the shops. And automatically, the lady started talking Thai to me! YEAAAAAA! WenY looks like a THAI lol. Let me tell you what the board says ok?
IMG_3328
Drummets – 10 baht, Wings – 6 baht, Wings & Rice – 6 baht, Additional Rice – 5 baht!
IMG_3331

Chicken fryer in action! The chicken was hot and tasted beyond superb! And the drummets were as big as drumsticks! I definitely enjoyed my bite into the chicken. The batter was done with simple marinade if you’d ask my superb tongue. But being charged only a dollar for a large piece of tasty meat is definitely a steal.

IMG_3332
I definitely don’t look like a stationary car when I’m refueling! :D

Later on we walked, walked and walked. I think we walked like 40 kms that day. Maybe even more :S! Thailand’s main religion would be Buddhism! Every where I walked I saw lots and lots of little prayer places like these. And almost every single time there would be people doing their prayers!
IMG_3339
We were definitely knocked out after walking for such a long time. Justin bought a corn and we just chilled in front of Siam Central. One of the larger malls you would find in Bangkok. We also Plat-num Mall that day. And also went to Siam Paragon. And hmm I think we went to other places as well. Just that I cannot recall!
IMG_3342
Yobi and Justin @ Siam Central!!

At night we went back and diner at Side Walk cafe because we got lost after walking for about 2 hours along Thong Lom road @.@ We totally died already!! Paying 100 baht got us from there to the hotel. We were stuck for about an hour in the car though. But okla! 10 ringgit is damn cheap.

The main difference for the dinner was the Thai Fishcake! A 100% thai styled delicacy! Tastes like heaven! Never be fooled by it’s looks! This was definitely the food for the well tongued! Lemon grass flavor that wasn’t to heavy neither was it too weak! Killerrr!

Day 2 should be up soon!

Bangkok’s Walking: Travelling Day 0.5

The weather is scorching, the roads are dusty, the people are loud, and a year long plan for a visit to Bangkok has been made reality. Oh and the food? GLORIOUS! Rwarrr!! On Saturday Yobi, J and I made a trip down to Bangkok. We stayed in pretty cool place called Baiyoke Boutique located just behind it’s big brother Baiyoke Sky which is the tallest building in Bangkok.

IMG_3459

The modern and fancy decor in the hotel lobby! Liked the glassy and shiny feel of the interior! The bedrooms where simple and comfortable! If I had a complain about the rooms, it’ll probably be the super small LCD television as well as the poor lighting in the room which did not seem so suitable.

IMG_3317

The best thing about the hotel will have to be the F.O.C things they provide! We get a bottle of mineral water EVERYDAY. As well as NEW toothbrush and toothpaste EVERYDAY! Beat that mate. You can practically come here empty handed and still feel clean!

IMG_3318

After checking out the rooms, we were definitely starving! I wanted to have the Nasi Lemak onboard the flight but it was sold out! How unfortunate :(! Bangkok city is really busy all day long, the roads all jammed up even at 8 in the night. Walking down the road I had a couple of pictures of the city which I have to say is not a beautiful sight. In fact the city looks a little rundown and slump. Needless to say though, tourists were everywhere to be seen.
IMG_3302

The street outside the hotel.

IMG_3305

Justin equipped with his 10 pocket khakis with used tissues in one pocket, keys in another pocket, hands in another pocket, wallet in another, hand phone in another and oh of course his Ipod I’d believe.

Yobi leading the pack down the busy street! Mind his Fatass thank you lol.
IMG_3304

Our first eatery for the day was The SideWalk located less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The place served good food at holy smoke cheap price!
IMG_3306

Hehe, first proof that we’re in Bangkok! Coca cola everywhere you go!
IMG_3308

Yobi is all excited about the food. Who would not be? Thailand with its scrumptious food. Anyone would go gaga over this.
IMG_3310

Justin and I have a picture before the meal too! Courtesy of Yobi!
n535656997_2587662_4162
Tom Yam Kung filled with 4 halves of large prawns with Thai specialty, fried egg with oysters! And heck? Where are my other pictures of this cari makan event :S!! We had two more fried rice that meal which was wahh!! So satisfying! Loved it!
IMG_3312

This meal costs us less than 40 ringgit for the soup, fried rice X2, fried egg with oysters and a 1.5l Coke! On the way back, we felt totally roasted by the heat. Add the dust and I think Bangkok naturally feels like the dessert. The air is dry! Nonetheless, the Thais have just the remedy for that! And that would be;

IMG_3322

hohoho!! Fragrant coconuts were all over selling at just 20 baht each! Such a steal! The natural sweetness accompanied by the nice smelling fragrant of the fruit was sooo good! I had at least 7 or more of these during the trip!

After that we headed back to the hotel for a short chill out session! I jumped into the shower for a quick cool down and before I realize it, we were out on the streets walking again! I think I’ll stop here just for awhile! This post seems very long already!!

Till then ;-) Cya!

SunBurst KL 09 Opening: Sucked :( Cari Makan!: Ngau Kee @ Changkat Tong Shin :)

Yesterday was a fun a fair in many ways! Earlier part of the day, I spent my hours with Jian and Freddy (boon). Jian was late because his was running errands for his mom. After picking me up at 2 we headed over to Freddy’s place before driving to Pavilion using NPE followed up by Smart tunnel haha. Pay toll non-stop ahaha! Had Madam Kwan for lunch! Nasi Lemak was quite a treat even though the curry chicken meat was not as tender as desired! On the downside the chendol was horrible!! Pictures are on Jian’s new 8mp hand phone and not mine haha. He got new high tech toy wei!! After that we braved 2 hours of jam before I reached home! I wonder how long more did Jian take to get home! LDP was such a biatch !@@#

untitled

Later at about 8 Ziyan picked me up before getting Homie and Yobi. We headed over to Pavilion again! We were going to see which artiste would attend Malaysia’s “big day out” called Sun Burst. We were quite punctual reaching there at 9pm. But finding the place was a pain in the neck! After a long and tedious search, we found the place only to find we were NOT ALLOWED IN even though we were INVITED.

F!CK THE FAKE SHIT MAN! What the hell is wrong with Malaysian organizers!!@ After 30 minutes of waiting we were allowed in though :S. Not everyone were allowed in even then haha. Just a couple of us. We were given headphones to experience Malaysia’s Silent Disco. Such a sad night :( The crowd were so chatty instead of having fun. Yobi asked, “hey why can’t we have fun like them?” I’m like “How is this fun :(?” Homie had his hands in his pocket and Ziyan was sitting down by the side. We had this pose for an hour or two for the night before we got the artiste list and seriously bored as well.  It was down hell boring!@#$ Not to mention there were several fake shits with that weird accent in their speech. We looked at each other and put up the “what the hell” eye. THIS EVENT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS EPIC FAILURE!!! Nonetheless we would have Cold Play doing their stuff in this coming event as well as Prodigy. These two are the “thing” for me if I actually attended Sun Burst KL!!

ngau%20kee%20famous%20beef%20noodles

Nonetheless, the night has not ended yet. I was famished when we left, so we did a little driving and ended up at Jalan Alor and Changkat Tong Shin area. In this cari makan event, Ngau Kee noodle shop became a contender in the battle for the best beef ball noodles haha!

2691954999_9927dce3ac_o

You won’t accept the fact that this humble store by the side of the road was actually one of the  best of its kind back in the good old days! Nonetheless, competition and modernization has somewhat toned the quality down a little and now this place is second when compared to Soong Kee beef ball noodles!

3155114813_a2e8e152ab

Why is that so? well if you’d ask me, I very much prefer the minced meat (chu yok sui) topping at Soong Kee because it is cooked much finer and taste holy smoke! The one at Ngau Kee though is still tasty but not as good only. Truth to be said, this opinion would really differ for different individuals.  Like Ziyan’s dad prefers Ngau Kee compared to Soong Kee.

After enjoying a hearty meal, we left feeling rather satisfied. A large bowl of noodles @ $6 was a little on the pricy side when compared to Soong Kee. Furthermore, only 6 balls were given in contrast to 8 ball by Soong Kee. I also had a coconut water drink with some coconut flesh in it for $1.50! So enjoyyy! See? Even bad times can be good! Damn Sun Burst 09 love Food :)! On the way home the ipod had old tunes from the early year 2000 days playing. LFO was on with SummerGirls, Girl on TV and  Every Other Time. 98 degrees as well. We felt nostalgic back then. We also questioned the credibility of current boy bands. Why? Why? Why? Nonetheless we are all appreciative for what we enjoyed before! One weird thing is that I do not listen to much music back then haha.

Buddy Meetup!: Cari Makan @ Bumbu Bali, Puchong

Wahhh I really should be sleeping now :S!! But after having more than 12 hours of sleep earlier today, my body still feels so hyper! I guess I’ll just watch the Liverpool match at 4 and probably catch some sleep after that at about 6! So sien got dental appointment at 10 later :(!

Today the guys decided to go for dinner after not seeing each other for less than a week lol. Wohoo gays united!! Met up with the usual peeps for dinner @ Bumbu Bali in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. This unfamiliar eatery among the PJ crowd is fast becoming a popular dining place. Occupying two floors which are usually packed during dinner, this place serves good food in a Indonesian environment at a price I would deem fairly expensive.  Most meals here are priced between $20 to $40. Nonetheless the quality of the food is uncompromised although there were instances where they would serve you uncooked chicken according to Pauline! @.@ Nonetheless they would make up for it by replacing the dish as well as a complementary dessert on the house!!

IMG_3244

My drink :D, Bumbu Bali’s house specialty the Barley Lime drink. Sounds common but the taste isn’t!

IMG_3263

Two fat boys & two fat meals! Yobi and I! And ohh the beer! Corona @ 16 bucks wtf? It only costs 2 bucks back in Aus!@! Only Zs and Ziyan so generous to pay for such expensive beverages.

IMG_3262

Justin a.k.a Homie still hiding under his cap even at night.  Why man Justin? Whyyy!?

IMG_3251

Speaking of gay united , the three of us ordered Nasi Campur Bumbu Bali which cost us $30 each hoho! This dish is served with squid, prawns, fish, “kangkung belacan”, some awesome satay and also your choice of Chicken Rendang or Beef Rendang. Justin and I had chicken while Yobi had beef. The Chicken Rendang is soo delicious! Next time I might request for a switch. More Chicken Rendang and no squid!

IMG_3225

Also joining us that night was Zi Yan and this girl whose name I still don’t know despite going to Zouk and the same high school with her!! haha.

IMG_3260

Unknown girl’s burger! Who orders a burger in Bali mannnnn! Really so ang moh kia! But don’t pray pray wei! She says the burger is nice! Even Yobi and ZS agreed!

IMG_3261

Burger Meal @ 20 bucks? I think this is more worth it than Carl’s Junior! But the burger got no bacon on it making it look less tempting compared to Chiliz.

IMG_3255

This was Ziyan’s meal. Half a serving of grilled chicken with rice. He said he loved the chicken at the start haha not sure about the end. Despite only having one choice of meat, he was bloated by the time he finished his meal. He did complain though that his chicken was a little overcooked!

IMG_3218

This is noob Zhan Sheng hahaa! No good picture of you la ZS! Sorry man! The rest all so grainy or too dark or blur :(  ZS ordered Kambing Bumbu Bali but alamak! Eh zs no comment on your food ke? I did remember him saying “Damn big man!” Nothing more nothing less. But I tasted some of his mutton. Tasted like the Hong Kong salt and pepper style in which I had at China Bar the last time I went Melbourne!

At the end of the day, the bill amounted to $200+ for the 6 of us. Felt very very satisfied!!!My lunch was of frankfurters and a hardboiled egg onlyyy haha. After dinner we went over to ZS house :) Played Risk but I was much more interested in ZS’s Maldoodle or Maltese crossbred with  Poodle puppy called Terry! Super duper cute wei!

But ZS is a bad master. Feed the poor puppy like 3 tablespoons of dog food only! And say he doubled it after getting some advice from Dr Lee yesterday! What in the world ZS!!@#! Give him  at least half a cup please! If not later I report you to SPCA! hehe jkjk! But really, Terry is all bones!

PS: And I know the reason why I still do not know the girl’s name!!! It’s because every time I ask, you all will forget to tell me her name because you were all too busy telling me “what the hell wei! how can you not know her name”  aahaha.

Cari Makan: Hor Fun @ Lee Tong Kee & Dim Sum @ Marco Polo

My cravings for food never dies and this seems to have taken a toll on my “diet” haha. Oh well, shedding another 1 or 2 kilos to achieve ideal weight shouldn’t be too hard :P After lapsing an impressive self measured performance in the pool I was feeling hungrier than ever! Dad and I decided to go pass the city centre to see whether we can get any good eats. After driving awhile, we passed by a half-century old eatery called Lee Tong Kee which was and still is famous till this day for its decent pricing and good noodles! Even Malaysian Newspaper The Star cannot resist putting it up on the newspapers! Take a look HERE.

280120091017
Old as it is, the noodles still taste good and original according to my dad. He’s been patronizing this place for ages since the current boss’s father was in charge! Now her dad has gone with her sister to open one shop in Singapore! ^^

280120091018
Significantly lower in MSG compared to most places in KL, the Prawn and Shredded Chicken noodles is a good eat! Especially to people sensitive to MSG. For me on the other hand, I think I would not mind a pinch of MSG in my noodles to give me the extra kick :D Also we ordered another dish to complement to noodles as there were no wantons to go with it because the supplier has not delivered the wanton skin yet. We had:

280120091020
While steamed chicken skin is a put off due to the soft slimy feel of it (not to mention tasteless), the tender chicken meat served the classic way with oyster sauce dressing was really lovely.  The chicken meat was really nice! Smooth and not overcooked yet not traces of bleeding which is often evident at chicken rice stalls that can’t cook chicken properly!@#!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also another good eat in which I had today was Marco Polo restaurant located in Wisma Lim Foo Yong. This place is really good! Unfortunately I did not take any pictures for this meal :( The roast pork there is really one of the best I’ve had ahaah! At 16 bucks a serve of two long strips, this crispy and tasty skinned dish is heavenly! The dim sum there was quite nice as well, they had this scallop dim sum which was very tasty! Oh and their steamed pork ribs dim sum is definitely one of a kind! Steamed with a variety of Chinese herbs and yam, the amazing way in which the flavors fuse made it really delectable!

untitled
This picture ain’t mine but it is the best representation for the roast pork I had @ Marco Polo today!

Marco Polo when I looked it up over the net, is one of the better eats in KL nowadays. Despite being overshadowed by other famous franchise like Overseas, this place still lives through all the competition. A worthy try which does not cost too much in my opinion. The pricing is considered normal these days and the peaceful atmosphere will definitely give you a peace of mind while enjoying dim sum, a meal once considered a Chinese fine dining in the older days.

On my recent chinese eats!~

Overseas Restaurant @ Jaya One sucked real bad in service and the roast baby pig/ suckling pig or Yue Chue had a porky taste which spoils the taste.  Chinese New Year over population? Or poor management? On the contrary, I really liked the Lap Mei Fun!

Damansara Palace @ Mutiara Damansara was total ownage on the suckling pig on the other hand. Also, the awesome fish dish engaged me to into my second serve! Personalized service by the restaurant staff made the meal extra special too! Probably because my aunt knows the people there.

Canton I @ One Utama, the baby of Dragon I was not bad, the price as acceptable and the egg tarts were quite a treat! However, the havoc during lunch hours was quite a put off.

Reunion Dinner!: Welcome the year of the OX!

Sunday night was an ever year affair where family members gather for a dinner together. Although some of my aunty and uncles did not come down, our moods were no dampen! In fact we still headed into a great new year dinner! The Lee family was still having great fun in both Aussie and Malaysia!

Mom’s spread was scrumptious as usual for a 10 people crowd. We started off with Shark’s Fin soup! My Sam Ku gave my mom some sharks fin from the US worth hundred plus US$! Very generous weii!! hehehe. My mom only used halve but it was more than sufficient for us! Her soup did not taste like sharks fin soup which was the reason why I liked it haha! I don’t quite like normal sharks fin soup!

IMG_3212

This year before the dinner day I complained to my mom, “Whylaaaa!! Always Steamed Chicken one :( Not nice at all!! *emoo*” Haha. It’s nothing but the truth!! Steamed chicken for practically every Chinese festival is horrendous @.@! Not to mention, steamed chicken skin taste so crap! But the roast duck which we had was like woahh!! Nice!! But I think Regal on Roe’s duck tastes better! Weeeeeeeeeeee~

IMG_3198

Another must have on the dish table is Siew Yoke or roast pork! Crispy on the skin and tastily seasoned, what more can I ask for? Yums!! Roast pork goes well when wrapped with lettuce!

IMG_3202

The next dish is one of my mom’s specialties, the Nga Ku? lol! In English it is called Arrowhead. My mom fries this Chinese delicacy with Parsley, minced meat along with some fermented Chinese bean curd paste!

IMG_3201

But that was not all!! We had butter prawns on the table as well! With prawns flown from across the states to my house, we were guaranteed fresh large prawns hehe. The prawns were really fresh with the exception of the first prawn I had.

IMG_3206

My aunty also prepared something for the night. She made meatballs with crabmeat which tasted nice as well!!

IMG_3211

This is the last picture, my worst enemy AHAhaha! The steamed fish @.@……. Mom knows how to steam her fish but her son here doesn’t know how to appreciate it :(!

Cari Makan: Zanmai Sushi @ 1U and Mel’s Corner Section 17

For the past few days, my life has been quite a handful! Old buddy meet ups has been quite good. Met 3 old friends. 2 of them really old that 1 of them I did not know I even knew her lol! The other mehh.. Met her last CNY!! They all seem to be doing well! 1 tukang gigi (dentist), 1 tukang kaki ( leg something) and a pharmacist.

So what’s been processing in my stomach lately? First up is Zanmai Sushi @ One Utama. Zanmai Sushi is a Kaiten style sushi bar. But what I find weird is that we did not take any from the conveyor belt because we decided that the sushi on it looks a bit tired ahah. Oh no! Did not bring camera to this occasion!! Ok I guess I’ll have to steal a couple of pictures from the internet! So be WARY, pictures are NOT MINE. Thanks to the peeps that got these pics posted up before me!!
sakae7
I have to say that Zanmai Sushi serves really cheap Makimono. My Tamago Maki only cost $1.60 for 6 small pieces @.@. Then Tamago Nigiri was $1.80 for 2 pieces, Spider Roll coating with flying fish roe was $6.00 for 6.

spider

STei-Salmon[1]
Salmon is such poison to me! In fact, all fish is poison to me. I only had three slices of this and I came back with a Diarrhea!! Aaaaaaaa!! Don’t see the hype in something that has no taste in it :S Yobi said there is a certain texture to it but I think otherwise. The texture gives me the creeps! Cold and a touch of slime! Eeeeeeew! No smell to this one though.

eel
I really think the price is sooo worth it here at Zanmai! Not the cheapest but I doubt it is overpriced! Yobi ordered 2 sets of Unagi sushi for plus minus $24.00 . Really crazy amount of eel in those two things he ordered! Quite a good eat! Yobi, J and I was filled to the brim in a bill which totaled to less than 100 bucks!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what’s up next? Well my dad loves Wanton Noodles and this place was found by him! My sister loves it, I love it as well. But somehow, Yobi does not know it existed even though he claims eating in this area for millenniums.

The place to go is Restoran Mel's Corner @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya. Weird name for a Chinese Restaurant. I thought it will be called err 8 something or Fortune something haha. Nonetheless, with holy smoke wanton noodles, I understand why they don’t need those “special” name. The main highlight of the noodles would be the char siew that has perfect proportion of fat to meat with good seasoning before being barbecued to perfection. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside which gives the char siew a sort of melting sensation! If you feel a lil spendthrift you can request for more barbecue pork @ $2 :)

WantanMee

Another thing which makes me give this place thumbs up is the wanton itself! Most places often has the wanton tasting weird because it is sticky and the meat inside tastes dull :’( This place on the other hand does it right. It definitely beats the so called BEST Wanton Noodles in Petaling Street hands down!

Wantan

That is all for now even though I actually have one or two more places to talk about! Will save this backlog if I encounter a drought in the near future :P

Cari Makan: Pork Noodles @ SS3

It’s now 1 o’clock and I’m starving! Mom says her meeting would end 1 but it has been delayed perhaps? Nonetheless I shall fill up my tummy with this blog post!

It has been almost a year since I came to this coffee shop which is just a stone throw from my house! I recall that the last time I came here, I got quite pissed at how slow the service was from the pork noodle stall that I did not even bother ordering this yummy bowl of noodles. The couple would make a dozen or more bowls at one time. But his process is sooo slowwww. About 15 minutes per round :(

I had a sudden craving yesterday and my dad said that this is probably one of the better pork noodles since the aunty in Yat Yeh Hing closed her stall! The place to eat this yummy bowl of pork noodles is Restaurant Kean Fatt. The location of this place can be found on this dude’s blog here! The stall is operated by an old couple. One grump old lady and one slow old man!
190120091015

You practically get to choose the kind of meat you wanted in your noodles or a mix would be ok too. I had pork slices and minced meat on mine. The generous servings of the meat makes this bowl priced at a pretty high $4.80. The broth of the soup was extremely flavorful putting me at an MSG alert. But amazingly I did not get any MSG overdose symptoms. But my dad found the noodles very salty. On the other hand, I felt a sensation of sweetness and saltiness due to one of the preserved vegetables used to make the broth.

190120091016
I found this place very yummy! In fact, superbly delicious in my opinion haha. Too tasty my dad claims. Loved the little crispy nibbles of fried pork lard. A correct mixture of their secret sauce and sort make this meal very favorable to a hungry lad like me!!

I’m so hungry now :( I need my lunch!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
