Cari Makan: Rakuzen @ SS15

It is that time of the year again.  There is traffic jam everywhere, the restaurants are fully booked and everyone is out to have fun.  When the clock strikes midnight, cheers will be heard echoing from all directions and the night is celebrated with 20 minutes of fireworks magnificence. What else could it be if it is not the eve of a new year? This time, instead of an eventful night with the guys, it was going to be a family affair. Mom, dad and I and a good restaurant as our host.  We picked Rakuzen without much hesitation as my mom patronises this restaurant often.  Unfortunately, we were at a different outlet and not the one in KL which my mom frequents.  The good news came with the sight of Japanese men expertly handling an array of fresh seafood with their razor sharp sashimi knives.  A great sight it was.  I had the same vibe like I had when I sat at the sushi bar in Kanta while watching Akira-san fix up the perfect chicken roll.  Whether this restaurant is good or not, that will be at the end of the page :D!

DSC_0011
Daddy and Mommy.  Thanks for the dinner ::)!

On the dining table, we had:
DSC_0012
Some artsy wares which contained the soya sauce, Japanese spicy condiment, and  toothpicks.

Too much publicity for a wasabi but I liked how Rakuzen has put enough care to ensure everything is done up nicely.  Attention to detail!!
DSC_0013
Leaf shaped wasabi paste!

Mom gave us rabbit food to start our meal.  Surprisingly yummy! Edamame (Rm8)
DSC_0014
Tasted somewhat buttery with a fresh after taste.

To fill our tummies, we ordered a California Roll (Rm18) and a Soft Shell Crab Sushi a.k.a Spider Maki.
DSC_0015
Lovely. Avocado and prawns with well seasoned  sushi rice.  And Rakuzen is generous on what they give for their rolls.

DSC_0016
This photo was taken from a bad perspective but the sushi itself was good.  The soft shell crab was really crispy.  Now that I think of it, the soft shell crab pasta from Plan B did not turn out this crispy at all :(!  However, this soft shell crab roll comes in second place when compared to the one served at Zen Sushi @ Subiaco!

What was to come next turned out horrible! The Chicken Katsu-don set.   Oh and the picture turned out horrible as well.  :(!  But no worries, the set came with silky smooth Chawan Mushi which costed only a fraction of the set meal price =.=!!
DSC_0018
Om nom nom! The Chawan Mushi had shiitake mushrooms, fish cakes and minced meat.  Pretty good for an side dish!

Oh and there was a Hokkaido seafood festival going on at the moment so my dad thought, “Why not try something else,” And so he chose an oyster dish after carefully inspecting the menu .  Fried oysters serve on a lettuce leaf and drizzled with Tonkatsu flavoured mayonnaise (Rm18)!
DSC_0017
I was a bit intimidated at the start.  Despite being fried, it was still oyster by nature and its juicy as always.  Luckily, mayonnaise + soy sauce = FTW. :)!

The last dish to come was the assorted Kushiyaki and Yakitori (Rm35).
DSC_0019
Looks good aye?  BUT IT SUCKED.  Dry salmon :( Tasteless Meatballs :’( Where do I stop ranting?  The only thing which I thought was nice was the skewered chicken meat (Yakitori).  Lesson learned!!  No skewered meat unless you are at Jun @ Perth!

Last of all was the dessert. The frozen strawberries stuffed with ice cream!
DSC_0020
Picturesque, good to bite, fair to taste, bad to tooth.  Something I would try once, but not recommended for seconds.  Hell yeah it ached when I bit into it.  Tried to raise the temperature with hot tea.  And the chemistry was wrong.  Tasted horrible @.@!

Ok peeps, sorry that this post have to end abruptly, but I’m in a bit of rush because I have to wake up early tomorrow.  5.40am to be exact =.=!  I’ll be spending the weekend over at Taiping and soon after, hohohohoho!! I’ll be meeting the little darling.  Oh yes!! Finally ;)!!!

To conclude this, the meal at Rakuzen was pretty good.  But if I could change the evening, I would have taken the Katsu-don and skewered meats of the menu.  Instead, I would have opted for a few other dishes found on the Hokkaido Festival specials!  I would have preferred freshly baked salmon, more scallops, and why not some Teppanyaki style diced steak served with garlicky fried rice.  All in all, this place was worth the price and definitely worth vising for a second time.  Lots more to try on the menu!!
Happy New Year to all my dear friends, readers, family and humans.  May our resolutions for the new year, heal us and the ailing nature.

Over and out!

Cari Makan: Chan Meng Kee @ SS2

It was about 3 years ago that I wrote an entry about one of the tastiest and most well-made wanton noodles in the KL area.  Reminisce it here. Apparently, mid-way through 2009 he closed his stall in Mel’s Corner @ Section 17 and went incognito for awhile before going big in the SS2 area sometime this year.  This guy’s shop is located along the row of shop house behind Nasi Kandar Pelita.  I have not been a big fan of wanton noodles until my dad brought me to this one in my college days 2006/7.  But ever since, he decided to shift his restaurant to a better location in 2009/10,  the quality has been inconsistent.  Nevertheless, check out what this place still has to offer.

IMG_0389
I liked the yummy noodles with well-made Char Siew pork (bbq pork).  The pork tries to maintain a 50-50 balance between fat and meat. (and it used to have a crisp skin).  Most wanton noodles in Malaysia do not use sesame oil which might be preferred by others Asians especially people from Hong Kong.  But this one uses pork lard with crispy bits of pork crackle to mix with the noodles.  A worrying cause of course for the health conscious, but no dramas.  The 50-50 balance and pork crackle has a magic to bring your worries away.  Unless it sucks that is ahahhaha.

And it is not called Wanton Noodles without Wantons is it not?
IMG_0393
To accompany the meal, Chan Meng Kee also offers additional serves of meat such as soy chicken, pork roast, roasted duck and wild boar curry.  But I stuck to the classic and had one more serve of the barbecue pork!! ohhhhh yeah :P!  Ok, peeps, over and out.

I’ll try to get more goodies up when I find time to go out.  Spent three mornings with a report and now I’m pretty much free besides the pesky IELTS!

Cari Makan: Plan B @ Bangsar Village.

Meeting up with friends during the weekends is an enjoyable routine back home in KL.  The good friends from high school make crapping sessions over a cheap drink impeccably perfect.  All meet ups are too common and almost routine until I realise, “WTF*ck?  Where is my homie #!”  But these concerns over the past week were diminished as we managed to rescue Justin from the depths of his hideous routine.  I’m not exaggerating this.  The level of secrecy of his activities and rejection from him is literally painful.  But no worries, we got him out to spend the noon with us today xD!  The lunch was at Plan B @ Bangsar Village after attending a session with Z at Zhan Sheng’s church.

IMG_7742‘Plan B's interior was modern with industrial fittings cluttered on to the ceilings.  Walls were finished racked with high school-days science lab solution bottles.  Remember those rusty brown semi-transparent bottles?  The crew of waiter and waitress were pretty stylish, ditching the collared tee-apron cliché for a tee + vest combination.  Not unusual as I have seen plenty of these but I still fall for it every single time.

IMG_7745
THE Plan B.  At the end of this meal, I was actually glad that the people who started Delicious, actually did Plan B..  because they needed it. Badly.  Delicious literally sucked.  Much thanks to Yobi who introduced Plan B to me :)!!

Some thirst quenchers.
IMG_7747
Clock wise from left to right: My Root Beer Float @  5 bucks,  Fat ass Yobi’s half drunk Chocolate Milkshake, Zi Yan’s Oreo Milkshake and Zhan Sheng's Ice Chocolate.  The drinks were pretty dope with the exception of the Iced Chocolate haha.

Oh, and DINERS. PUKE ALERT. BEWARE.  The glass used to serve sky juice is laced with saliva.  With a sample size of 6 cups, you have a 1in 2 chance of having such a  cup.  Smell before you drink.  Wipe before you make contact.  Absolute POTONG-STIM of the day.  Saliva laced cups. @.@!! <—Herpes

And for the mains, we helped ourselves to:
IMG_7756
Josephine and I ordered the Asian Style Soft Shell Crab with Pasta @ Rm19 each serve.  Liked the way the sauce was a close imitation of  Wong Poh’s famous buttermilk crabs, minus the sweetness.  Had a good aroma, creamy sensation and pretty salty.  But that is ok for me.  Food without enough salt is like having no food at all. You get my drift right?  The feeling of having eaten but not satisfied? This dish used lots of curry leaves giving it a delicious aroma unlike the frozen ones back in Australia. And despite the small bits of cut chilli and sprinkles of chilli flakes, the pasta was not spicy at all.

Yobi went heavy on meat and decided to go for the double cheeseburger @ Rm21.
IMG_7749
Thick slab of burger patty made from premium mince I’m assuming.  He said you cannot compare this to Alfred’s but I can see his face.  I easily read off his face that the burgers from down under still rule. HAhahahahaha.  I liked the shoestring chips though.  Like Meccas minus the proven rule of Mecca’s chips immortality.

Justin’s Carbonara  @ RM15.
IMG_7753
Described as light and creamy without the feeling that you’ve had enough even before finishing half of the pasta, I think Justin liked it.  I had a taste of it, and true enough, it tasted good.  But I have tasted better ones at Tiamo Nedlands where all the ingredients a chopped so finely it sticks so very nicely on each strand of pasta making it an instant pleasure to the taste buds.  I can make it too HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Zi Yan’s meatball pasta.
IMG_7754
Comments?  None.  It was quietly eaten from the corner of the table. Hahaha.

Zhan Sheng’s Sandwich.  He got rejected twice while ordering, and settled for this.  Looks pretty damn awesome. And I liked the way the chips appeared, but not so much for the taste unfortunately.  The sandwich looked humungous and I think it was super filling too!
IMG_7755
Plan B reviewers also raved about the variety of cakes offered at the counter.  So we decided to try some of it despite having overeaten already.   The best pastries for me were the Orange Peel & Poppy Seed Muffin while the  Red Velvet cake was a good change from the typical carrot cake.  The Red Velvet had red berry sponge? with thin chocolate layers finished with a coating of cream cheese!  Delightful!

By the end of the meal, I was 33 bucks poorer but heaps happier.  While we still meet up quite often, a missing member makes it incomplete.  Disregard the laughter, disregard the joy, a missing one is a missing 1.  Oh, and this was actually meant to be my overdue “birthday” lunch ahaha.  Enjoyed it pretty damn much!!

If the quality and standard is maintained, this is definitely a place to revisit in the future.  Fairly priced, I think Malaysians would not mind coming to these up market places for some gastronomy pleasures.  Will definitely try the much hyped Gruyere Muffin the next time around.  Oh and please do not forget about the cups.  You partner would definitely want to know where you got your Herpes from.  Jkjk.

Till then. ;-)

Cari Makan: Breakfast stall @ Pasar Pagi Taman Megah

The food scene in Malaysia is immense. While there is no Michelin ranted hype nor the fancy pansy hatted awards in Australia, the yummiest bites in Malaysia can come from the simplest and most unglamorous places.  This simplest place is no further than the local morning market (pasar pagi).  Cleanliness might be a concern for most.  But for me, I’m a true local.  I could not care less.
However, a few steps have been taken by the local authority to improve the cleanliness of these places and one such step is by setting up proper complexes to house the vendors.  A bit saddening because the “pasar” feel is now a distant memory.  But that is ok, the old Chinese couple operating the brekkie stall in the market is still there :).  My mom and dad gets food from them for me on the weekends ho!ho!  So, what are my breakfast picks from this stall?

The economy fried noodles.
IMG_0341
There is practically nothing on there besides heaped carbs. But that is all I really need for a good start to my day.  The taste is unbeatable.  It might not be the typical Malay sambal but it looks down on every sambal/chilli paste in Australia.  And do not be fooled by the word economy.  The old couple charge a premium for it but that is probably the privilege they earn from the ever growing crowd!

My next pick is the Nasi Lemak Biasa.  Yes, the serve is small in Malaysia and 2 is just about nice for me!
IMG_0346
Small little nibble sized crispy anchovies are the secret addition to this packed little goodness.  And I always complain about how cafes serve half an egg.  Look at this.  Probably one tenth of an egg. WTF. =.=!  Nonetheless, it was every bit as enjoyable as the fried noodles.
On a separate note, this rice dish and I go a long time back to primary school where my usual routine is guy punching and girl fighting.  Waking up at 6.45am to eggs and milk did not fill me up.  So my dad used to bring my lunch box to this couple to be filled with the exact same dish with added curry chicken :)!  And how long ago was that?  I’d say 15 years.  Yes folks!  15 years and they are still serving.  They’d probably be driving Mercs and Beemers by now.

That is all I shall talk about today.  Lovely morning breakfast packed by mom and dad.  Awesome possum thanks parents!

Cari Makan: Shihlin Taiwanese Delights @ 1Utama

I have been to 1Utama quite a fair bit since I was a kid.  But never once was I tempted to try the little snack places scattered all over the complex.  It was normally O’Brien Sandwiches, Sushi, Pasta, Chinese Hawker or American.   That was until my housemates back in Perth started talking about all the delicious food offered by small Taiwanese snack stalls.  I was dubious about the yumminess of these snacks because if it was yummy, I would have known.  Apparently not ahah.  I only noticed this place a few days ago.  The fact that two of this similar snack stalls are located in this complex only throws me into deeper embarrassment when I consider myself a local.
IMG_0314
But let bygones be bygones.  I finally made up for it by doing a double dose in my recent visit to 1Utama.  I decided to try two things.  One was the XXL Chicken which was super damn big and only cost 6 bucks.  The other was the sweet potato fries which was delicious!  I enjoyed both :)!
The chicken was super big.  Could have fed two people and I enjoyed the garlicky powder they used to season the chicken after it has been fried.  My sister said the one in Taiwan was tastier, and it was done differently.  Not sure how different it is, but this one was already pretty damn good!  But there was just one problem, and it was the sogginess of the skin when you try to walk around enjoying each bite slowly!! BOOOOo!! Lastly, the fries were yummy and the pepper-salty powder in which the snacks were tossed in was good!   However, not all the potatoes were ripe so some were a bit harder than others heeh!

So if anyone visits 1Utama, I would recommend  you to have this snack.  Definitely a preferred option over those fancy cafes that are nothing more than wannabes.  Do not be deceived by the pretentious decor of the fancy cafes.  You would be better off with these snacks rather than those offered by the fancy restaurants :P!

Celebrations: Dad’s 58th @ Pantai Seafood!

Work @ Worley has been good so far.  Even without getting paid and having to put up with the nasty bitch of a weather. Learned a lot about the Aus standards even though I had only been there for a mere 12 days! Still a lot to familiarise myself with.  Later on the 16th I stopped and took off from work to come home.  That night I stopped we cooked dinner @ our place and friends over!  Then Polly and I watched Inglorious Bastards! And before we knew it, the taxi came in the wee hours of the morning to get us to the airport! She certainly did freak us out! Like totally @@! She was old and wore a dress plus she had awesomely long fingers! Very seductive for a tall men perhaps.  But for me she was scarrrrrrrrrryyyyy!  Pauline kinda freaked out too ahha.  In fact we though she was a transgender :S!

The flight was on AirAsia and it was ok, except for the shit food @@! I mean really shit ahah.  They had tricolour poison with grilled chicken which was blehhhhh!!  Anyways could not be too bothered by onboard food.  Because when I get off the plane Ho!Ho!Ho!! Feels like Christmas is here early ahah.  My dad’s bday was on the 17th of Dec.  We held a small family dinner @ Pantai Seafood not too far from my place! So happy to be living in a foodie district!
IMG_4925
The yummy noodles! I think it was some long life noodle thingy?  Cannot really remember!

IMG_4927
A vege that is never nice in Aus.  The Sei Tai Tin Wong.  A mixture of Brinjal, Ocra, long beans and four angle beans fried in a prawn-chilli paste :D!!

IMG_4928
Mantis Prawn with Salted Egg coating.  Very frequently eating with “unshelled” prawns but that is never better than mantis prawns which is almost never served with shell. ahah

IMG_4929
Som random bean curd dish! I’m not a fan of bean curd so this was OK only.

IMG_4932
This was the first crab dish which was fried Kam Heong style with vermicelli! One of the best crabs around!  We had another steamed one which was a total FAIL! But nonetheless I’ve been forced to reluctantly fork out 70AUD for crabs in Perth for the few years I’ve been living there.  So I’m so much more thankful for the crabs in Malaysia ahah.

IMG_4935After devouring all the diving food we held on awhile more while free desserts pour in.  My aunty and uncle seems to know all the makan places proprietors so it’s always cool to eat wherever they suggest.  You save instantly on karaoke rooms and desserts ahaha.  Private dining rooms come easy too!!  Definite enjoy my dinner on the first night! Been coming to Pantai Seafood for the past few years after boycotting certain seafood places! This place definitely serves a kick @ a cheap price!  More importantly my dad enjoyed to food too! It was his birthday after all! How can the birthday boy not enjoy his meal? ahaha! Sadly there was no present for him this time :(!  But it’s ok his kids are back so that’s still a present right? hohoho

Oh and on the top is my cute cousin with his cool “Dragon Ball” hair. Haha he’s got a lot of girls chasing after him supposedly @@!

More updates soon!

Cari Makan: Hor Fun @ Lee Tong Kee & Dim Sum @ Marco Polo

My cravings for food never dies and this seems to have taken a toll on my “diet” haha. Oh well, shedding another 1 or 2 kilos to achieve ideal weight shouldn’t be too hard :P After lapsing an impressive self measured performance in the pool I was feeling hungrier than ever! Dad and I decided to go pass the city centre to see whether we can get any good eats. After driving awhile, we passed by a half-century old eatery called Lee Tong Kee which was and still is famous till this day for its decent pricing and good noodles! Even Malaysian Newspaper The Star cannot resist putting it up on the newspapers! Take a look HERE.

280120091017
Old as it is, the noodles still taste good and original according to my dad. He’s been patronizing this place for ages since the current boss’s father was in charge! Now her dad has gone with her sister to open one shop in Singapore! ^^

280120091018
Significantly lower in MSG compared to most places in KL, the Prawn and Shredded Chicken noodles is a good eat! Especially to people sensitive to MSG. For me on the other hand, I think I would not mind a pinch of MSG in my noodles to give me the extra kick :D Also we ordered another dish to complement to noodles as there were no wantons to go with it because the supplier has not delivered the wanton skin yet. We had:

280120091020
While steamed chicken skin is a put off due to the soft slimy feel of it (not to mention tasteless), the tender chicken meat served the classic way with oyster sauce dressing was really lovely.  The chicken meat was really nice! Smooth and not overcooked yet not traces of bleeding which is often evident at chicken rice stalls that can’t cook chicken properly!@#!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also another good eat in which I had today was Marco Polo restaurant located in Wisma Lim Foo Yong. This place is really good! Unfortunately I did not take any pictures for this meal :( The roast pork there is really one of the best I’ve had ahaah! At 16 bucks a serve of two long strips, this crispy and tasty skinned dish is heavenly! The dim sum there was quite nice as well, they had this scallop dim sum which was very tasty! Oh and their steamed pork ribs dim sum is definitely one of a kind! Steamed with a variety of Chinese herbs and yam, the amazing way in which the flavors fuse made it really delectable!

untitled
This picture ain’t mine but it is the best representation for the roast pork I had @ Marco Polo today!

Marco Polo when I looked it up over the net, is one of the better eats in KL nowadays. Despite being overshadowed by other famous franchise like Overseas, this place still lives through all the competition. A worthy try which does not cost too much in my opinion. The pricing is considered normal these days and the peaceful atmosphere will definitely give you a peace of mind while enjoying dim sum, a meal once considered a Chinese fine dining in the older days.

On my recent chinese eats!~

Overseas Restaurant @ Jaya One sucked real bad in service and the roast baby pig/ suckling pig or Yue Chue had a porky taste which spoils the taste.  Chinese New Year over population? Or poor management? On the contrary, I really liked the Lap Mei Fun!

Damansara Palace @ Mutiara Damansara was total ownage on the suckling pig on the other hand. Also, the awesome fish dish engaged me to into my second serve! Personalized service by the restaurant staff made the meal extra special too! Probably because my aunt knows the people there.

Canton I @ One Utama, the baby of Dragon I was not bad, the price as acceptable and the egg tarts were quite a treat! However, the havoc during lunch hours was quite a put off.

Cari Makan: Zanmai Sushi @ 1U and Mel’s Corner Section 17

For the past few days, my life has been quite a handful! Old buddy meet ups has been quite good. Met 3 old friends. 2 of them really old that 1 of them I did not know I even knew her lol! The other mehh.. Met her last CNY!! They all seem to be doing well! 1 tukang gigi (dentist), 1 tukang kaki ( leg something) and a pharmacist.

So what’s been processing in my stomach lately? First up is Zanmai Sushi @ One Utama. Zanmai Sushi is a Kaiten style sushi bar. But what I find weird is that we did not take any from the conveyor belt because we decided that the sushi on it looks a bit tired ahah. Oh no! Did not bring camera to this occasion!! Ok I guess I’ll have to steal a couple of pictures from the internet! So be WARY, pictures are NOT MINE. Thanks to the peeps that got these pics posted up before me!!
sakae7
I have to say that Zanmai Sushi serves really cheap Makimono. My Tamago Maki only cost $1.60 for 6 small pieces @.@. Then Tamago Nigiri was $1.80 for 2 pieces, Spider Roll coating with flying fish roe was $6.00 for 6.

spider

tamago2

STei-Salmon[1]
Salmon is such poison to me! In fact, all fish is poison to me. I only had three slices of this and I came back with a Diarrhea!! Aaaaaaaa!! Don’t see the hype in something that has no taste in it :S Yobi said there is a certain texture to it but I think otherwise. The texture gives me the creeps! Cold and a touch of slime! Eeeeeeew! No smell to this one though.

eel
I really think the price is sooo worth it here at Zanmai! Not the cheapest but I doubt it is overpriced! Yobi ordered 2 sets of Unagi sushi for plus minus $24.00 . Really crazy amount of eel in those two things he ordered! Quite a good eat! Yobi, J and I was filled to the brim in a bill which totaled to less than 100 bucks!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what’s up next? Well my dad loves Wanton Noodles and this place was found by him! My sister loves it, I love it as well. But somehow, Yobi does not know it existed even though he claims eating in this area for millenniums.

The place to go is Restoran Mel's Corner @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya. Weird name for a Chinese Restaurant. I thought it will be called err 8 something or Fortune something haha. Nonetheless, with holy smoke wanton noodles, I understand why they don’t need those “special” name. The main highlight of the noodles would be the char siew that has perfect proportion of fat to meat with good seasoning before being barbecued to perfection. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside which gives the char siew a sort of melting sensation! If you feel a lil spendthrift you can request for more barbecue pork @ $2 :)

WantanMee

Another thing which makes me give this place thumbs up is the wanton itself! Most places often has the wanton tasting weird because it is sticky and the meat inside tastes dull :’( This place on the other hand does it right. It definitely beats the so called BEST Wanton Noodles in Petaling Street hands down!

Wantan

That is all for now even though I actually have one or two more places to talk about! Will save this backlog if I encounter a drought in the near future :P

Cari Makan: Pork Noodles @ SS3

It’s now 1 o’clock and I’m starving! Mom says her meeting would end 1 but it has been delayed perhaps? Nonetheless I shall fill up my tummy with this blog post!

It has been almost a year since I came to this coffee shop which is just a stone throw from my house! I recall that the last time I came here, I got quite pissed at how slow the service was from the pork noodle stall that I did not even bother ordering this yummy bowl of noodles. The couple would make a dozen or more bowls at one time. But his process is sooo slowwww. About 15 minutes per round :(

I had a sudden craving yesterday and my dad said that this is probably one of the better pork noodles since the aunty in Yat Yeh Hing closed her stall! The place to eat this yummy bowl of pork noodles is Restaurant Kean Fatt. The location of this place can be found on this dude’s blog here! The stall is operated by an old couple. One grump old lady and one slow old man!
190120091015

You practically get to choose the kind of meat you wanted in your noodles or a mix would be ok too. I had pork slices and minced meat on mine. The generous servings of the meat makes this bowl priced at a pretty high $4.80. The broth of the soup was extremely flavorful putting me at an MSG alert. But amazingly I did not get any MSG overdose symptoms. But my dad found the noodles very salty. On the other hand, I felt a sensation of sweetness and saltiness due to one of the preserved vegetables used to make the broth.

190120091016
I found this place very yummy! In fact, superbly delicious in my opinion haha. Too tasty my dad claims. Loved the little crispy nibbles of fried pork lard. A correct mixture of their secret sauce and sort make this meal very favorable to a hungry lad like me!!

I’m so hungry now :( I need my lunch!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Cari Makan: Lai Fong Beef Noodles @ KL.

After a long swim with an already rumbling stomach, nothing gets better than a hot bowl of noodles. What more a good bowl of noodles! Located just a stone’s throw from Pasar Seni LRT, walk along the busy street to find a corner lot coffee shop sporting a Lai Fong sign board and you’re there! If you don’t see it, try asking around. It’s probably one of the more famous eats in town for budget conscious peeps (which should be increasing in the economy downturn.)

There is not mistaking which stall serves the beef noodles as there is one and only one stall that sells it.  I requested for just beef slices and beef balls because I dislike eating all the other intestines, stomach, and liver parts. Costs $5.00 for one small serve. Large costs $6 and extra large would cost you $7/8.
150120081014
This place is less generous compared to the super duper awesome Soong Kee beef ball noodles with mince meat topping. Soong Kee gives 8 balls compared to 3 balls from Lai Foong. Beef meat slices were decent from Lai Foong. But what sucked real bad at this stall was the chili sauce which tasted so plain :S Not nice at all!!

150120081012

Nonetheless, this was a decent eat @ 5 ringgit.

Cari Makan: Nasi Lemak @ Jalan Tanglin

Nasi Lemak is always a breakfast favorite which is always on my chart for breakfast when I’m back here. After exercising at the club, dad took me to Jalan Tanglin Nasi Lemak which is insanely popular with the crowd. Initially I wanted to bring my camera down but decided not to. Felt very awkward ahaha. We ordered two plates of Nasi Lemak with Chicken Sambal and eggs. Cost us 10 bucks in total with drinks. The price is about ok but the serving a small.

130120091011
A living history foundational by human hype.

All in all, this place is worth coming thanks to it’s bit of history. This days has been known to my dad in his days with the Government (35 years ago!). He has not been here since 15 years or so he exclaimed! Wowowow!! Also, even though this place was crowded to the max, it’s good location within the lush tropic greenery gives it a certain feel of tranquility that differentiates itself from the normal KL city life despite being just a minute or two from one of the busiest cities alive. I think foreigners will love this place. See them walking all over the area.

The downside was the dry chicken meat followed by the small serving. The base nasi lemak biasa @ $1.50 had no eggs inside  making it less worthy. The sambal is not those thick kind which I’m flexible with because the S.E.A park one was just as watery.

All in all this trip was worthy but the hype was not. Also be sure not to commit any bullshit offense. Police are everywhere in the canteen eating Nasi Lemak. After all it’s located fairly near the Bukit Aman Police Station :D

Cari Makan: Belly Good a.k.a Pork Lover Paradise.

Pork Lover Paradise as claimed by most people is an overstatement. I think this place has got to do without that tagline till they really do more than serve meat. They need to serve tasty meat. Enough ranting, today I woke up at 6.40am after 2 mere hours of sleep so that I can see my aunt off to the airport :D So tired ~.~  Came back at about 9 and rested till it was time to EAT at about 12! Rwarrrr!!

The lunch place had already been decide beforehand hoho. The place to head to was Belly Good formerly known as Wendy’s Bistro. This place is located opposite Yuen’s Steam boat @ Sunway Mentari OR same row with Cash Converters. Check out this blog (<—click) it’s got the real map there. Reached there and was promptly served by the waitress. The manager was also quick on the menu, she gave us the menu in an instant. Good service if you’d ask me! Mom and dad were not awfully hungry but I was flying light @.@.

First up is their Portobello Shrooms stuffed with Cheddar and Bacon. Hmmm I don’t think it is worth it for a serving of two @ $12.50!! I can easily buy these raw, rub it with olive oil and sprinkle some sea salt before topping it with aged cheddar and bacon slices before roasting it in the oven. All from local grocers in Aussie :D But okla.. the taste so-so. Nothing to shout about.

We ordered a large pork belly @ $24.90 to share:

I liked the well proportioned fat-meat serving. Not all lean and dry, neither was it all greased with fats. I did not quite like the sauce because it was a bit sweet. Should put the rib’s Manipur sauce instead! Their coleslaw was quite a treat for a coleslaw fan like me but the mash was errr? Nothing to shout about.
We also ordered a Large Pork Ribs @ $28.90 to share as well!

This is where disaster starts at Wendy’s Bistro. Wendy’s Bistro ribs is of course meaty and “worth the money”. But the problem is the meat was tough. Had to be a savage to get the meat off. Not to mention the oversize chunks of meat had to be dipped in sauce over and over again to get it tasty. This is where Wendy’s Bistro failed me. Other than that I pretty much fine with everything else. Loved the Pork Belly :D Coleslaw serving was too small to neutralize the meaty feast.

This meal set us back about Rm76 in total. 2 entree 1 appetizer and water for 3 :D

Other than that today was hibernation day in preparation for my swim tomorrow!!

Cari Makan: Taking away Hassan’s Indian Rojak.

Been pretty caught up even though my sister has gone home. Swimming thrice a week followed by several ol’ mates meeting up for lunch and yam cha has kept me busy. Yesterday night saw Tian Quan. It’s been three years man. I also met Prakash. About a year since I met him. Eating life has been pretty good as well. Famous Char Siew, Good Pasta and today my mom made nice nasi lemak :D.

Last Sunday is a worthy blog post! Had some light lunch of Indian Rojak from Hassan’s a movable store of 3 vans parking themselves where customers love them. Hassan’s has been around for quite sometime now. Even though they might not seem the have overhyped queues, their Indian Rojak is one of a kind. Some customers can be seen taking away 8 packets sometimes. Oh yea on a side note, the boss stays very near my house :) All the vans can be seen parked outside his house haha.

Before the sauce:D

After the sauce! Their sauce is always given in abundance. Too much spoils the fresh taste of this Indian delight! Crunchy turnips with bean sprouts and cucumber( not so nice!! lol!) with this dressing goes well with crispy fried prawn fritters that don’t get soggy even though soaked makes it hollly smokee!! But I believe what distinct this Rojak from others is their sauce. Like the slight presence of spiciness in the sauce. Peanuts are obviously present i the sauce as well :D

Mom also had her special fried rice to go with the Indian Rojak :D

Sundays are always awesome! Hope this Sunday is an awesome one as well :D
