Filling in the Gap: The best combination.
39 degrees. That is the weather in Western Australia at the moment. Tomorrow, we might see it peak at 40 maybe? Me and heat, that is a cursed combination. Yesterday, XL and I went to Carousel to catch the new Harry Potter movie. While I’m not the biggest Potter fan on screen, the new movie impresses when compared to its predecessor. Lunch time was kept simple, McDonalds for the win. A nice large value meal with cold drinks to quench my thirst!
McDonalds. The great combination a.k.a McChicken McValueMeal
I have always thought of the McValue meal at Meccas as great value. Awesome combination that fills me up to the brim with added satisfaction in the process. One of the best things about McD is the apparent consistency that is present now matter how far apart the restaurants are. The one in Australia pretty much tastes the same like the one in KL, so does the branch in Hong Kong. It is pretty damn wicked, sick is it not? This makes some restaurants pretty damn shit. Same restaurant, same chef, same food, different day, different taste. This especially applies to all the Malay and Indian restaurants back home in KL. But I guess this consistency comes with all the hype and experiments regarding how long can the food last before rotting. But truth be said, no one cares.
Ok enough ranting about McDonalds. After the Potter movie, all of us, including the guys that have finished exam headed for a swim down at the Victoria Park AquaLife centre. 5 bucks rip off!! Did not really enjoy the swim there. After the swim, it was dinner time. A bunch of overjoyed engineers and steamboat was on the schedule. But the weather killed us all. Despite buying just enough food, I was full even though I did not eat much. It was so saddening. Sitting at the table, I saw all the balls floating around the broth. This again was all thanks to the stupid weather. Summer and steamboat, officially the worst combination EVER. Ok enough complaints.
Off to bed I go. Time to enjoy the comfort of an antique air conditioning systems.

Bites: Atomic @ Mends Street, South Perth.
It has been ages, since I last had a cuppa. The usual places would be Tiamo @ Nedlands or Dome @ anywhere. Or perhaps, after dinner over coffee talk. Just yesterday, the little darling and I decided to head over to South Perth for a drink before coming back home. Dome would have been an automated choice, but something different would be good aye? Yea? Yea? Haha!! But this time around, we decided to go to Atomic Cafe @ Mends street. It is just opposite Dome. The drinks there tasted OK. Xin Ling had an orange juice. Sugar free, 100% orange. This and that but jeez. It was sour. Upon tasting it my hair spiked & balls dropped. But it is ok, girls have their reasons for enjoying the acidity I’d reckon?
But for me, I will do it the kids way..
Iced Chocolate @ Atomic. Made by IPhone, Nursed by Instagram.
With the mercury topping temperatures this spring paired with a century-long heat record broken, this remedy was divine. But sadly, I’m not Aussie enough to appreciate the finesse in a barrister’s effort. Froth. I enjoy a thick layer of froth though :D! Does that count?

Filling in the Gap: My Lady Luck!
Most people know my stories. From the outside, it is pictured like a grasshopper, but inside, its really just incompatibility. But when you find your very own charmer, it does not need a second thought. It is simply just too obvious. The riddles are self-explanatory and it all comes together. The busy year slipped through like a breeze despite the entanglements involved.

The no. 88 is a simple Chinese representation of prosperity. Depicted above is mine. But there are a few other ladies in my life. My mom, sister, grandmother and a few others. I must really thank them for all the ease and encouragement they have brought to my live. For some, their presence alone makes a difference.

Filling in the Gap: Exams?.. Over?
It is funny that I’m blogging about examination period coming to an end for me. This is so considering the time that has passed since the engaging period of my 4th year came to an end. But there is a certain difference when you finish exam alone, and, when your partner or friends finishes with you. Alone its funny. They study while you spend the whole day killing aliens or invading Vietnam. But since Xin Ling finished her exam two days ago, CR today and the rest of the mates on Thursday or so, this calls for a celebration ey>? Haha!!! A little bit on the premature side but after I went to pick up a cake for the little darling after brunch at a new dim sum restaurant.

A cake fit for dessert lovers. The mango cake from Esthers @ William Street, Northbridge. The top of the cake is layered with a thin slice of mango. And between each sponge layer, a lovely combination of cream and more mangoes!
Holidays :)! 15 years of exams and counting. We never stop learning do we?

Bites: The Shed @ Northbridge.
Now about the eating part ! I’ve been to the Shed plenty of times already. Before Yobi left for home, I brought him here. Vil, Cr and I came here for dinner last summer as well. And here we are again. All for the sole purpose of eating the yummylicious ribs! :P
Pork Ribs with Jack Daniels sauce for 15 bucks. Pretty much the tastiest ribs around for that price. Tony Romas would rob you for at least 35 bucks for the sampler ! However, the ribs today was disappointing. IT did not have enough sauce and MEAT. Most of the days, the cooks at Shed would give you three lovely pieces of ribs, but today, only 2 :(! BOO! Nonetheless, it still tasted good.
However, not all were keen to have the ribs. Xin Ling for example, opted for the Chicken Parmagiana. She is not a fan of meat on bone ahah.
This was her Chicken Parma! I think Jimmy had the same as well! It looked really delicious. Not sure about the taste though. I had a bit of Xin Ling’s and I thought it tasted yummy! The batter was thin and sufficient. I really dislike the one in the uni cafe which has like a 10 inch thick batter :(!!
The guys also ordered beer! Rwarrr! Not like I had any, not a fan of beer ahah.
OMG, this blog entry is so dry. Maybe because I’m brain dead. Thanks thesis.

Bites: Bonsai @ Roe St., Northbridge.
I have been a bit too caught up with work recently, thanks to the symposium which went pretty well for all of us. 3 days I did not log on to msn, and 200 emails left undeleted or unread. After that there was finally a spring feast event which did not result in a fiasco this time around. Darling and I made 330 bucks from selling fishballs. A pretty impressive amount for 6 hours of work I’d suppose?
But that is enough of ranting, this is an extension review as a foodie to my recent visit to Bonsai @ Roe st. in Northbridge. This time it was my cousin’s birthday and he was treating us to a 9 course meal. Sounds awesome huh? It actually is ahah but the 9 course is not as grand as it sounds. However it gave us a rare chance to try the best that Bonsai had to offer. True enough, out of the 8 appetizer that came out, 8 were brilliant. But I particularly thought the vegetarian roll was a bit of a scam ahaha. I did not get to take many pictures because I did not bring my camera and yeah, duh! Iphone quality is shitty as usual. So these are the rare few ones that were worthy I guess? aaha
My main was the pork chop cutlet which for me did not taste Japanese, but more like mom’s cooking. Nice piece of meat despite the small serving. But that was ok, the appetizers had me filled the brim! Next was something my cousin said he has every SINGLE time he goes to Bonsai. This was one slab of monster really.
This was the chocolate indulgence dessert which added to my weight -loss fail toll. This slab of dreamy chocolate slice brought my meal count to 10 course. The super indulgent chocolate mousse layer was deliciously smooth. The macaroons were sweet as hell. But it was a good start which made the chocolate cake a whole lot more rich in chocolate flavour. Brilliant piece of dessert. BUT it is impossible to finish this slice of monstrosity alone. My cousin saw me struggling and told me that water would help. At least he acknowledged that I was dying on the dessert ahaha. And is it just me or when I eat a super smooth and creamy desert, I feel really dreamy and slow =X? OMG.
My Bonsai experience is very good. The salads there are the most dope shit ever since Thai meat salads. Full of fresh and crisp greens mixed with a Japanese chemistry of sauces before it is finished by chunky pieces of Karaage. The grilled asparagus rolled meat stick were unique delights. Good stuff for a price I would not mind paying.
Last but not the least, this restaurant casts curiosity to patrons looking to see Bonsai plants but see none. It is however on your plate. Judging by the appearance of the dishes. It took a fair bit of time to garnish, and be manicured to serve visual pleasure along with unique taste. Visual pleasure as a consequence of time and effort are just my thoughts that it is relative to the art of Bonsai ahah. But then again I believe its true. So yeah :P!
Time to finish the last parts of the thesis. Its a countdown to massive freedom.

Bites: Alfred’s Kitchen @ Guildford
The night is cold and the day has been busy. Not to mention, one of your best mates are leaving on an airplane soon. With no destination in mind and lots of frustration. Time to leave the routine business and find that special mug of “night warmer”. I picked Yobi from his concert yesterday before heading over to the Swan Valley to enjoy the best burger in Western Australia. Even though the night was late, we were not alone when we arrived. Loads of other hungry people were there to get a bite of Alfred’s.
The night is never cold at Alfred’s. In fact the heat from the fireplace kept me happy at the counter. It was like a barbecue made for humans.
Since 1946? My country did not achieve independence till 1957 mate. No wonder the burgers here are epic.
After waiting for quite awhile, it paid off. A juicy patty between two classic sesame buns finished with crisp lettuce and spicy caramelised onions. Yumms! I had the chilli burger while Yobi had the hamburger with bacon and cheese. Yobi finished his burger in a flash. When he was done he had hesitation scribbled all over his face. I gave him the WTF. He was like “Wah! Does not enough!”. He had a sudden dilemma but in the end chose a bag of fries with salt overload. Just the way he likes it!! ahaha
It took me 30 minutes of driving to get here but no regrets for all that driving. The night didn’t feel so bad anymore after that burger in my tummy. The quiet drive home felt peaceful with no worries. I like it!

Bites: Delizioso Cafe @ Subiaco
Has little Caesar lost its place as the best Pizza in town? Hmm maybe, but more than likely according to the newspaper. The article in the Morning Herald mentioned about the new “IT” place in town that has been pretty low on profile despite its good records in recent competition and so. The place called Delizioso was featured in the article here. I was happy and more than keen to try out this new finding. Sure enough, it turned out to be full on creativity made on small square of pastry.
How about pumpkin sauce for a change instead of tomato for the base? Or maybe the award winning mushroom trio topped with loads of crumbled ricotta? These were pretty delicious, and it is ridiculously heavy on the tummy =X! No wonder they charge almost 7 bucks a slice. This place is no food science and neither does it kill Picasso in art but its bring a feel as if it is in a class of its own. Not bad for a hideous cafe.
